I've read the other reviews on this textbook, and I am simply not as satisfied as some of the other purchasers. I find the book often very hard to follow in areas where I do not have the background knowledge to understand what the authors are talking about. I have taken and passed the pre-requisite courses required by my university, so I should not feel so far behind when reading this textbook. However, whenever I read the book to clarify the lectures, I am often more confused than when I began because of all of the knowledge the authors assume the reader already knows. For instance, it discusses topics and uses acronyms that it has not yet explained, as if the authors are assuming you are moving into this course immediately after learning the basics of biology and chemistry. Perhaps if I had taken some form of intermediate introductory course I would be less confused by the content, but that just isn't something my school offers. I guess overall satisfaction may also be affected by a reader's professor and lectures, but I simply struggle with some of the concepts presented. While I have to agree that the book is very well written and well explained in some areas, it left much to be desired for someone like myself who didn't have an extensive background in biochemistry.

Also, I would like to add that this review is for a Digital Media course I'm taking. In no way do I discourage anyone from buying this book if it is a required text, or from taking Biochemistry in general. I think there are a number of factors that could improve my understanding of the course, it is not solely the book. I simply wanted to state that I personally did not understand all of the content presented within the book.

Chapters aren't too long. Goes over subject manner somewhat clearly. Instructor teaches at a fast pace so you have to read quickly and thoroughly. I still have to google for help as the book either doesn't go into full detail, or doesn't have it at all.

Well presented content with helpful questions and problems at the end of each chapter. This will be a text I keep handy even after I complete this course. A wonderful resource.

Came on time and looked just about new. The only issues were the corners were a little more bent/torn than I would have expected and the binding a little looser than I would have preferred. Since I rented the book, I am obviously more careful with it, but more than with a usual rental since it wouldn't last much longer if I didn't handle it with care.

This is a great book. Minor wear and tear, with highlighting, but the highlighting is almost a study aid. The book is very well written, easy to understand, and flows nicely. It is also well paced with graphs, charts, and diagrams to increase understanding.
