Works well on skunk oders in a house!,
By
This review is from: Room Shocker (Kitchen)
Last Monday my dog lost a battle with a skunk and came into the house before I realized she had been sprayed. While I got her back out the door very quickly, the die was cast, and she had gotten some of the "skunk juice" in the kitchen and adjoining areas.I tried deodorizer from the pet store, Orange-Oxy, Mr. Clean w/ Fabreze, and Pet Odor Fabreze spray, during the course of the week. None worked, only straight vinegar misted with a spray bottle seemed to make a small dent on the horrible, permeating stench, and it didn't work very well. I decided to give "Room Shocker" a try. Based on the mixed reviews I wasn't sure about it, but at this point I was willing to give it a shot. I purchased a 4 pack of the shockers (I have a large house), and this Saturday I released them, as per the instructions, in the living room, kitchen, upstairs office, and the hallway connecting the bedrooms. The wife and I left the house for about 2 and a half hours while they worked. When we reentered the lower floor the smell of chlorine was prominent, but NO SKUNK! We opened all the downstairs windows, door, and activated the paddle fans. I moved the 2 room shockers from the downstairs to the upstairs bedrooms, plus the one that had been in the hallway, and closed all the room doors to allow the shockers to outgas for another 2 hours in those individual rooms. We then removed all the shockers from the house and opened up the upstairs to outside air, as we had the downstairs. On Sunday you could still faintly smell the chlorine, but STILL NO SKUNK, ANYWHERE! Even after 4 baths in various products and home remedies, the dog still faintly smells like skunk, so if she was near you, you could still get a whiff of the odor, but THE HOUSE WAS 100% CLEAR of SKUNK ODOR! Therefore I can say that I highly recommend the product for use against skunk odor that gets into your home. I only gave 4 stars because of Biocides shipping practice. I had ordered the product "Overnight" for an added $28+ to the package price. The item did not arrive "overnight", even though I had put the order in well before their 1pm PST cutoff time. It turns out they use USPS as their shipper, and USPS has a odd definition of "overnight" that varies depending on your zip code. If you read Biocide's shipping policy CAREFULLY you learn about this, but in my opinion, if you're going to charge $28 for overnight, use FedEx, or UPS, and don't allow the definition to be controlled by the vagaries of the USPS! It comes across as odd, and deceiving.

I bought an old stinky house 7 years ago and refinished and cleaned every surface but it still has stinky spots that drive me nuts. When I leave for vacation and come back I can barely breathe for a day until it is aired out. It has that "old house smell" that a lot of people with houses built in the 20s have. This product made the house smell like absolutely nothing, which is a weird sensation in itself. I accidentally left a window open during the procedure (did it for 7 hours) and used less than one Shocker per room (did one per 500 sq ft) so I did have to redo some areas, but if you are like me and driven crazy by smells this is a super product unlike any I have tried before. It aint cheap but it is way cheaper than stripping your house to the studs and rebuilding to get rid of odor. I will use it for my rentals and try to talk my landlord at work in to letting me use it on our office building to get rid of mold and garbage smells. The product can even be used to get rid of shoe odors. We left out all our shoes and cracked open every door and cabinet in the house. It is like having invisible fairy housekeepers clean every part of your house. I will use it 2x a year on my house and once a year on my car.

I used this product in a small bedroom for pet odor. I had previously shampooed the carpet twice, and aired the room out for days. I then tried Room Shocker for 24 hrs. I am not sure about the results. It definately changed the smell/odor of the room, but it wasn't necessarily a good smell that it left behind. It left the room with a very odd smell, so odd that my nose had a hard time processing the scent. I know this sounds bizarre, but there is no other way to describe it. Sort of like I didnt have the scent receptors for the smells. This only lasted for a few days, and then the room evened out....smelling somewhat better than before use. So, was it worth it? Sure.

We recently bought a home. Since the previous owner was a heavy smoker, the whole house was filled with smoke odor. I bought the Room Shocker( bundle of four) after reading the two positive reviews at Amazon. I am thoroughly disappointed with this product. It had abolutely no effect at all. I am returning this product and hoping to get a refund.

This product does not work at all and the company does not stand by its refund policy. I dealt with them for months trying to get my money back and my return processed and they completely ignored me. TERRIBLE PRODUCT FROM A TERRIBLE COMPANY!!!!!

My daughter and her family purchased a new home. The previous 85-year old owner claimed she only smoked in the garage...untrue!When they finally got possession of the house, it reeked of smoke. My daughter and son-in-law have a three year old and are expecting another baby, so this was a horrible situation. We only had three days to help them clean and move, so it seemed that my daughter and grandson would have to move 2 hours away with me and her husband stay at his workplace until we could find a solution. I did some quick research and read mostly good, some bad, reviews of the Room Shocker. It was truly a last chance to solve a tremendous problem. My son-in-law ordered four of the Shockers. They got possession of the house and we choked our way through many hours washing walls, which were so tobacco-soaked the clothes and water were totally brown within minutes. They had the furnace vents cleaned that first day, and the cleaner said it was the worst cigarette residue he had experienced. That night my SIL set the Room Shockers off, one in the lower level of the split level and three upstairs. I prayed during the night that they would be the miracle we needed. The next morning, it was amazing! The thirteen year old house that smelled like a one hundred year old bar was nearly fresh! It was like the Phoenix rising from the ashes! There is still a very very slight odor when it rains heavily, but NOTHING compared to before. I am thrilled to recommend this product!

Room Shocker,
This review is from: Room Shocker (Kitchen)
Because I am getting ready to sell my home, I purchased the 4 pack of Room Shocker to rid my home of cigarette smoke. I read the directions, followed them and waited for the results. A day after I completed the treatment, I had 20 Real Estate agents view my home on their monthly caravan. The responses about my house? It has a heavy smoke odor!!! The 4 pack of the room shocker was supposed to clean 2,000 sq. ft. My home is a little less than 1,400 sq. ft. The Room Shocker did absolutely nothing to the smoke smell in my home. Over $80 wasted.

I would definitely recommend this product if you have tough ordors to eliminate. My basement smelled awful (never did figure out what it was), but this took away the nasty odor. Little overpowering when first opened, but then I guess it would have to be to eliminate the odor. It has been well over a month since I used this and the odor has not returned. Would definitely buy again (if needed).

This product is amazing. We bought it for a house we rented. When we looked at the house, they had the windows and doors open. We loved it and signed the contract immediately. A couple days later when we went to move in, the house had been closed up and it had been raining. It stunk like a mixture of cigarette smoke, new paint and new carpet. We were devastated since we have 3 girls under 10. It smelled unholy in there. We lived like that for about 2-3 months before I started researching on the Internet. Long story short, we found this product and were so desperate that we purchased the 4 pack immediately. I had been covering my mouth with my shirt and was getting headaches every day so we had to do something. We fumigated the house and left for the evening. When we came back the next day the house had a chemical smell but no smoke smell whatsoever. We opened the windows and left again, returning several hours later. We wanted to see if the chemical smell was overshadowing the smoke smell. When we came back, the chemical smell was gone but the smoke smell was also still gone. It has been about 9 months and the smell has never come back. There is one cabinet that I get a slight sniff of it every time I open it and I'm not sure why since I never smell the smoke anywhere else. Here are a few tips to make the most of your money... here are some things we did:1. We took all the cushions off the couch, chair, etc. 2. We opened every single cabinet, drawer, etc. 3. We turned the A/C on FAN so the fumes would fill up the unit. 4. We put the fumes on a chair in the middle of the room so they would be higher than if they were on the floor. Also we did not want them to tip over. 5. We used no less than 1 fume per room. 6. We stripped the beds and laid the top mattresses up against a wall. We spread the pillows out so they would get fumed. 7. We made sure that there was nothing laying on the carpet that would inhibit the fumigation of the carpet such as other rugs, clothing, etc. 8. We opened all blinds/curtains, anything that obstructed the windows so the fumes could get into the window sills, etc. I didn't lift the blindes, just turned them to open. Also, another reviewer said to buy the product from Amazon, not the actual company that makes it (Biocide) because it takes forever to get it from them and Amazon ships quickly. We bought from Amazon and we got our order on time. Also, the BEST thing to do would be to leave the house for the weekend. 2-3 days would be awesome to fumigate. The longer the better. But just remember to air the house out for several hours before you occupy it again. One more thing, we did it in the summer, so we turned the A/C on fan. But when the winter came and we turned the furnace on, it smelled musty/smoky. Not sure what to do about that except let the A/C run for 24 hours, then hold your breath, run in and switch it to heat for the remainder of the time. But we have a gas furnace so not even sure if that is safe? Anyway, the product still worked awesome for its intended purpose. Buy today =) |
