This volume is the result of a five-day symposium at The New York Botanical Garden in 1993. Nearly 200 scientists gathered at this meeting to share their knowledge of the tremendous biodiversity found in the montane regions of the neotropics. In its effort to create a biological inventory of the montane neotropical forests, it points to both the invaluable diversity of these areas as well as and the immediate need for their protection and conservation.
