5.0 out of 5 stars A difinitive collection for any music fan, January 7, 2000
This review is from: Biograph (Audio CD)
As most music fans I go through phases of what I listen to and when. I purchased this set several months ago and have not had a week go buy that I didn't throw it in the cd player once or twice. The words and the feel of Bob's best and the fresh taste of some of his music that you don't hear a lot of. Tracks such as the Live version of Visions of Johanna and Percy's Song are a must hear. It's All Over Now Baby Blue is a somber additioin to this set. Bob Dylan's Best Of... albums are great but if you have to purchase just one Dylan set this is the one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great and essential set!, February 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Biograph (Audio CD)
Bob Dylan is stil the person who speaks to generations of music fans. This set gathers some of his best material ever. It goes back to the 60's for great anthems like "Blowin In The Wind', "The Times They Are A Changin", "Like A Rolling Stone" and many others. It also pulls out the best of his 70's material, especially "Tangled Up In Blue." If you're looking for a retrospective on Dylan, this is a good place to start. It also has a nice booklet and information on the recording and writing process of each song. A well put together set that will leave you thirsting for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Dylan collection, January 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Biograph (Audio CD)
With a song archive as large and incredible as Dylan's, it is impossible for one to release an authoritative 'Greatest Hits' collection on one disc, let alone three. Yet this box set seems to pull it off quite effectively. It starts from the beginning and covers up to the mid-80s. The selection of songs effective illustrate Dylan's development and changes (good and bad) as a musician and songwriter. Some may find this set to be expensive, but it is an essential for even the casual Dylan fan. Alternate takes and live tracks make this a set worthwhile for the fan who has many Dylan CDs. Some key tracks may have been left off, but any attempt to make a collection like this for an artist as great as Dylan will not be perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Times they are not a-changin', August 13, 2001
This review is from: Biograph (Audio CD)
This set does not only give you a nostalgic backflip, but it traces and reflects a history of the social movement in the United states which affected and positively influenced all of us in the rest of the world. This is ground breaking stuff. It also reinforces folk music as the base for all the other genres of music which was to come later on. You hear folk music transforming itself to another level , distinctively original and casting its spell on other musical styles which we take for granted these days. This is perhaps the best Dylan retro I have heard; a biograph of Dylan the poet ,the social commentator , the lyricist and the whole is far greater than the individual items , all great in their individual right.

This is a great collection of music. It contains so many of Bob's best and a few others that you don't hear enough! I must admit though, I got it for 25 bucks from my cd club.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive introduction to Dylan, August 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Biograph (Audio CD)
The greatest compliment ever paid to Bob Dylan was by George Harrison, who said he thought that Dylan's music would outlast that of the Beatles. You may not agree, but there's perhaps no better starting point for understanding Dylan. More comprehensive than the 'Greatest Hits' compilations. Fifty-odd songs for less than fifty bucks sounds a pretty good deal to me.

Bob Dylan / Biograph: Viewing this box set some twenty-plus years after its release, this box set is still the best for those who want Dylan's most famous songs. However, as we know, Dylan went on from this period to create a completely new set of excellent albums, albeit, very different albums than the ones represented in this box set. If you are a casual fan of Dylan's early work (and don't want to buy all those individual Dylan albums) this is the perfect box for you. Five Stars

5.0 out of 5 stars A gold mine, May 19, 1999
This review is from: Biograph (Audio CD)
The boxed set that started the boxed set craze, this is a very good overview of Dylan's brilliance as a songwriter and performer. The infectious "Abandoned Love" alone makes this collection worth having, and the lengthy Dylan interview included in the booklet, along with his comments on the songs, is a fine and informative accompaniment to the music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow., November 1, 1998

I haven't heard the whole album, but the song "Up To Me" just blew me away. Dylan's exquisite lyrics combined with his earthy, honest, vocals are not of this universe.
