Unfortunately I was under the impression that this was a new DVD of Anne Rice's writing/work. It was released in 2006; however this is a video that was actually released in 2000. The advertisement was misleading in my opinion. Be careful. If you are looking for a DVD that showcases current opinions and writings of Anne Rice this is not the DVD for you.

This tale covers Anne Rice from Birth (in a conflicted Catholic environment), through her rise to fame by 2000. As mentioned, this DVD is a remake of the A&E VHS of the same Title.

Her background is interesting, and I'm sure many will relate to the trials she went through (a little in the time norms, a little opposing the time norms). A consistent theme rises throughout her life, and trying to hold down her inner self causes heartache and interpersonal, professional problems.

I bought the DVD because I have the Vampire Chronicles on my To Be Bought list for Kindle. However, I may be Reading Memnoch the Devil (though I used to own it in Hardback - and never read it). Kindle makes reading so much easier.

I highly recommend this DVD for those getting ready to read or watch the series. It adds a little oomph to the story.

The DVD quality itself is a little wanting, and requires patience. The pause does not work, and if you stop - it goes back to the beginning. I got around this by switching and going through the chapters. Your mileage may vary.

Though this biography is about a decade out of date, it's still informative. It's nice to get some of the back story on the person behind some of my favorite stories. You definitely get some insight into what formed the world of Anne Rice.

The interviews of friends and family, along with old photos and footage from days gone bye were fascinating.
