Reason For Lowered Rating:
Anyone that follows Biography knows that their productions can be engaging glimpses at the lives of famous people. At a forty five minute run time (an hour less commercials), though, they present a Cliff's Notes version of someone's life story. The original portrait of Barack Obama was commissioned by the network and released on DVD in 2007. The same documentary has then added some additional footage (but remained largely intact) and been released on two more occasions. Yes, this is the fourth release of the same Biography special with some slight changes near the end to reflect the current state of affairs. If you've bought one or more of these releases, don't get suckered into revisiting the well yet again.
2007: Biography: Barack Obama
2008: Biography: Barack Obama Election Update Edition
2009: Biography: Barack Obama Inaugural Edition
I suppose one might call this 2012 version the Presidential Edition. After the exact same show, the special throws in a few details about Obama's presidency. It's hardly worth the effort as the additions are so quick and lack much depth. Do you really think that a Presidency can be discussed in a few minutes? It's just a poor attempt to double dip (or in this case quadruple dip) for the same DVD.
If you've never seen the Biography special, however, it is relatively successful. Obama's childhood, insecurities, and relationship to his family are fascinating and well presented.Read more ›
