Biography of a Place,

This review is from: Biography: The Home Depot (DVD)
I've never seen the Biography series cover a store; it usually covers famous people. Still, the script was basically about the store's founders. One founder reminded me of Aaron Spelling. One interviewee had more freckles than I've seen on any other person. The description of Steve Buscemi in "Fargo" fits him. English teachers could use this work to teach about foreshadowing; since one founder was interviewed on a football field, the viewer could just tell he eventually entered that arena, so to speak. One female Home Depot worker is interviewed along with one female business expert. In the same way that Ace became for "hardware folks" rather than "hardware man", this work tries to be gender-inclusive. The work implied that Home Depot has its enemies as Wal-Mart does, but then it somewhat glosses over that controversy. This disc said that Home Depot needed to avoid hubris but then concludes by suggesting the next Home Depot store could be on the moon. The film brilliantly admits that "Home Improvement" and other handy cable shows helped the company. (I don't recall anything being said of Bob Villa, however.) I don't step foot into that type of store, but I loved learning the history of any successful endeavor.
