Biography-General George Patton-Genius for War,
This review is from: Biography - General George Patton: Genius for War (A&E DVD Archives) (DVD)
General George Patton was one of America's greatest generals. His exploits in war are marvels to those of us who appreciate and value history, especially history of the men and women who made this nation.
A&E in its excellent Biography series presents a riveting 100 minutes of the man and the legend. From his historical lineage to his tragic death in 1945, George Patton is given new life and value to the current generation. One of the best things that his father did for him was to read to him. This helped to cultivate in his life a place of history, especially his place in history and his chosen destiny. Dyslexia was a disability that George Patton struggled with and eventually mastered through his sheer determination. He worked hard at West Point to master what was set before him. Having to repeat his first year made him more determined. Of course, there was romance for the young man. Family and the austere life of a military officer followed. He loved horses and the cavalry. However, he saw the need for technological improvement-going from horse to armored vehicle. He created the Army Tank Corp. Patton was outspoken on many subjects. His words often got him into trouble with his superiors. This DVD shows his greatest strengths as well as his apparent weaknesses. If you want to see a fascinating account of a great American, then this DVD will give it to you.

First off, I didn't receive the A&E DVD shown. I was sent a cheap DVD-R knock-off from someplace called "Bio.com." Have complained to Amazon. We'll see what they do.Second, being a Patton admirer even before the movie with Scott came out, this was an excellent bio of a great leader. Where it falls down are in the use of poor quality films of the World War 1 period plus some idiot throughout reads Patton's quotes with a gravelly voice that is a very poor impersonation. Let's hope someday A&E or the History Channel remake this tribute to the best American leader of the war with more than cheap, washed out film and a better reader. |
