This is a great DVD to add to a Johnny cash collection. This is an A&E program that dates back to 1998 (before Johnny's death). It features interviews with Rosanne Cash, Tom Petty, Johnny's brother and sister, ect... There are alot of footage and pictures I have never seen before. A&E really put alot of effort into this DVD. The content is mostly his early stuff then they briefly talk about the late 70's and 80's but still very informative.
This is a great portrait of Johnny Cash that anyone can enjoy. I have a learned a few new things about The man in black that I never read about in both his autobiographies.

It is a privilege for a Cash fan from way back to share this story of Johnny's life from his humble beginnings to the present! This is the most wonderful biography and, if you love Johnny Cash, you'll love this video. It is a tribute to a man who has given so much pleasure to so many people and who, despite his success, has not lost his deep faith or the common touch. To have fulfilled his dream from the hardships and struggles endured by his family in his childhood is amazing and kept me enthralled.

I saw this A&E biography on its release back in 1998, and it is what made me become a huge Johnny Cash fan. This is a terrific DVD that was well put together and thorough in its research. Whether you are just curious about Johnny Cash or are already familiar with him I think this DVD is a great document of his life and is something that can be appreciated even after multiple viewings.

This is a very good program. I had viewed it on the television show a few years ago, but it has not been televised lately since the movie was released in the theaters. The DVD is a good movie about the real Johnny Cash and his life. It is very informational about his life story and I really enjoyed watching it.

I caught the last 30 minutes of a show on A&E which was awesome and included everything right up to JR's passing. This version stops with the miss diagnosis of Johnny's illness after the release of Unchained.

Trying to fit Johnny Cash's life & career into 60 minutes left me wishing the program was longer. The interviews with sister, Louise, brother, Tommy, and daughter, Rosanne, added to the many clips of live performances and gave me a better insight to the megastar. He was a very special human being who gave his fans his all through his music.

Was a little disappointed in this. It seemed too regimented and formal. Also skimmed over a lot of things without going into depth on anything. Worthwhile having but not as good as expected.

This documentary spans from Johnny Cash's birth in 1932 to his renaissance in the 1990's. Born in Arkansas to a poor environment, his father had to leave Arkansas to find work following the railroads.

Johnny close to his brother Jack, who at 14 worked to help support the family, was devastated when his brother was killed in a work related accident. Injured by the equipment, while working. Johnny never recovered from this loss.

His music saved him from loneliness and when this wasn't sufficient, drugs and alcohol. He battled these addictions all his adult life.

Johnny was a man's man. He did many visits to prisons and the prisoners could relate to him and loved him and his music.

In the early 1950's, Johnny went on the road with Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and all recorded under Sun records in Memphis, Tennessee.

Later on Johnny wanted to record "Gospel Music" but Sun records was against it. When his contract expired, Columbia was his new recording company and his first Gospel albums were published. My favorite is The Gospel Road: A Story of Jesus Told and Sung by Johnny Cash {2LP Gatefold with Booklet}

Cash was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Two years before his death, in 2001, he received the National Medal of the Arts for artistic excellence.
