Tragic in Every Aspect, September 28, 2008
This review is from: Biography - Richard Ramirez: The Night Stalker (DVD)
This instance is different from Gacy, Wuornos, Dahmer, and other serial killers who are no longer alive. This guy is still here.
His crimes didn't just involve murder; they included rape, theft, the world's oldest profession, etc. I wonder if some fascinated by serial killers may feel that this instance crosses the line. In the same way that someone always wants to protect the parasite in the "Alien" franchise, this work says some people supported him. He even has a free wife now! One would think that those who get involved in satanic stuff were tricked into it by others; this work suggests that the killer embraced satanism all by himself and of his own invention.
This work was unique in several aspects. First, a mass mob helped capture the killer where in many other instances the capture is done entirely by police. Like Dahmer, Ramirez seemed to associate sexual arousal with violence and torture. Unlike other installations in the "Biography" series where no clues into the murderer's character are ascertained, here they speak of his mother working around toxins and his uncle shooting his aunt in front of Ramirez.
Before seeing this documentary, I had heard of Dahmer, Bundy, and others, but I never heard of Ramirez. Perhaps I was too young in the 1980s. But I do wonder if coverage on his crimes has been more scant than that of other serial killers. I am not sure why, however.
