5.0 out of 5 stars Edison
I was planning a trip for a group to Edison's West Orange lab and wanted a good background. This was excellent preparation.

3.0 out of 5 stars The usual happy talk.
This account was a gloss over. The kind of stuff they put out in public education.
No mention was made of Nicola Telsa or George Westinghouse or the blunder of
DC power distribution. Just the happy talk.

A good documentary on a personal hero of mine, Thomas Alva Edison. It complements the theatrical movie, "Edison, The Man" with Spencer tracy. It is only 50 minutes long and a bit pricey but an after market seller here on Amazon makes for a better buy.

Thomas Edison was know as a sadistic animal killer. He would steal his neighbors pets and farm animals to shock them to death. Thomas Edison was a vicious sadist. He made a public spectacle of electrocuting an innocent elephant. This is not a man to be in awe of!

1.0 out of 5 stars The Edison fantasy continues., May 30, 2011

I purchased this DVD with the hope that there would be an "HONEST" account... This is another useless presentation about Thomas A. Edison. Simply put, "THE CROOK", gets recognition with every publication. Edison, The "Thief of Menlo Park", would have made a great title for this one if the "REAL DETAILS" had been included! Where's the recognition for NIKOLA TESLA and GEORGE WESTINGHOUSE? Remove Edison's contributions (?) to society and they would not be missed... Tesla, with the industrial prowess of Westinghouse, gave us the dominant power system that the entire world uses to produce, virtually, every product that exists.
The AC induction motor is often referred to as the workhorse of industry. This is because it offers the benefits of simple, reliable construction, ease of maintenance and many years of cost-effective service. These factors have promoted the standardization and development of a manufacturing infrastructure that has brought about the establishment of a vast array of motor applications. More than 90 per cent of all motors used in industry worldwide are Tesla Polyphase Alternating Current induction motors that are manufactured under dozens of well known brand names. Not only did Nikola Tesla "CONCEIVE" the above, but he, also, devised the system of Polyphase Alternating current generation and distribution that is used worldwide. Nikola Tesla's work is recognized by few, but every modern society would not exist without his contributions. The entire world is Nikola Tesla's "benefactor". July Tenth is Nikola Tesla day!
