The boys from Brooklyn at their best,
By N. Durham "Big Evil" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Biohazard (Audio CD)
The debut album from the Brooklyn based hardcore pioneers was pretty much a good example of what was to come. Biohazard was and is one of the most underrated and devestatingly brutal bands of their time, and their self titled debut is proof alone. Combining metal and hardcore with rap elements, Biohazard was doing the "rap-rock" thing long before Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park knew what a guitar was, and to this day they never get the credit they deserve. The sheer raw sneer from band masterminds Billy and Evan is apparent on "Victory", "Blue Blood", "Wrong Side of the Tracks", "Hold My Own", and "Survival of the Fittest"; all of which are off the wall hardcore headbangers. The only thing that could top Biohazard's explosive debut would be their next album, the classic "Urban Discipline".

the first vicious attack from these brooklyn bombers,
By A Customer
This review is from: Biohazard (Audio CD)
This was the first release from these urban hip-hop/hardcore metal fusion gods. When I first got this album the horrible recording job slapped me in the face and I really couldn't listen to it. The drums were recorded with way to much reverb on them and you can't hear the cymbals. Actually, the guitar, bass, and vocal tracks are recorded very well, however the drums lead it to be a little more disappointing than you may think. Months later I tried to listen to it in depth paying attention to the song writing and performances over the bad quality. It really impressed me the second time around. Unforgiving riffs mixing in with pissed off urban lyrics, Biohazard's unique style was all there. With many classic tracks (such as "Victory", "Retribution", "Wrong Side of the Tracks", "Hold my Own", and "Blue Blood" just to name a few) this album does not by far get the credit it deserves. For real hardcore kids out there, this may be your favorite Biohazard album yet with double bass drum everywhere, chunky palm-muted guitar, and fast beats all over the place. The only problem I've come to determine is the bad recording quality on the drums and that could be the reason Biohazard re-recorded some tracks of this album for their next release, the absolute classic Urban Discipline.

BECAUSE WHEN YOU'RE IN BROOKLYN...YOU BEST WATCH YOUR BACK!!,
By "danteny_17" (Bronx, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Biohazard (Audio CD)
Biohazard's debut album is strong beginning to end. They incorperate elements of Metal, Rap and Hardcore music together to near perfection...Bassist/Vocalist Evan raps on some of the songs but don't expect stuff like Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park here...Biohazard's debut album is about as real, no nonsense and brutal as Hardcore gets. Rhythm guitarist Billy shares the vocals and his style is a little different than Evans which is cool for the overall effect. The Guitar riffs are memorable and filled with hooks and drummer Danny throws in some hip-hop beats here and there that makes you wanna risk life and limb and dive head-first into the pit...and as with most Hardcore, the lyrics are about subjects that you can relate to...especially if you grew up in a rough neighborhood...I definately recommend this album...and if you like this one check out CRO-MAGS "Age Of Quarrel" and "LEEWAY "Desperate Measures"...you can't go wrong with those...REAL NY HARDCORE!!!
