5.0 out of 5 stars The boys from Brooklyn at their best, January 15, 2005
This review is from: Biohazard (Audio CD)
The debut album from the Brooklyn based hardcore pioneers was pretty much a good example of what was to come. Biohazard was and is one of the most underrated and devestatingly brutal bands of their time, and their self titled debut is proof alone. Combining metal and hardcore with rap elements, Biohazard was doing the "rap-rock" thing long before Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park knew what a guitar was, and to this day they never get the credit they deserve. The sheer raw sneer from band masterminds Billy and Evan is apparent on "Victory", "Blue Blood", "Wrong Side of the Tracks", "Hold My Own", and "Survival of the Fittest"; all of which are off the wall hardcore headbangers. The only thing that could top Biohazard's explosive debut would be their next album, the classic "Urban Discipline".

5.0 out of 5 stars the first vicious attack from these brooklyn bombers, August 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Biohazard (Audio CD)
This was the first release from these urban hip-hop/hardcore metal fusion gods. When I first got this album the horrible recording job slapped me in the face and I really couldn't listen to it. The drums were recorded with way to much reverb on them and you can't hear the cymbals. Actually, the guitar, bass, and vocal tracks are recorded very well, however the drums lead it to be a little more disappointing than you may think. Months later I tried to listen to it in depth paying attention to the song writing and performances over the bad quality. It really impressed me the second time around. Unforgiving riffs mixing in with pissed off urban lyrics, Biohazard's unique style was all there. With many classic tracks (such as "Victory", "Retribution", "Wrong Side of the Tracks", "Hold my Own", and "Blue Blood" just to name a few) this album does not by far get the credit it deserves. For real hardcore kids out there, this may be your favorite Biohazard album yet with double bass drum everywhere, chunky palm-muted guitar, and fast beats all over the place. The only problem I've come to determine is the bad recording quality on the drums and that could be the reason Biohazard re-recorded some tracks of this album for their next release, the absolute classic Urban Discipline.

5.0 out of 5 stars BECAUSE WHEN YOU'RE IN BROOKLYN...YOU BEST WATCH YOUR BACK!!, September 19, 2003

Biohazard's debut album is strong beginning to end. They incorperate elements of Metal, Rap and Hardcore music together to near perfection...Bassist/Vocalist Evan raps on some of the songs but don't expect stuff like Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park here...Biohazard's debut album is about as real, no nonsense and brutal as Hardcore gets. Rhythm guitarist Billy shares the vocals and his style is a little different than Evans which is cool for the overall effect. The Guitar riffs are memorable and filled with hooks and drummer Danny throws in some hip-hop beats here and there that makes you wanna risk life and limb and dive head-first into the pit...and as with most Hardcore, the lyrics are about subjects that you can relate to...especially if you grew up in a rough neighborhood...I definately recommend this album...and if you like this one check out CRO-MAGS "Age Of Quarrel" and "LEEWAY "Desperate Measures"...you can't go wrong with those...REAL NY HARDCORE!!!

upon hearing this cd I was sold that this was something originaland hard in your face music.I love this cd I saw them before the cd release and they were realy great live.the origial cd lacted proper mixing/production but this remaster is much improved I'd like to hear what this cd would sound like with todays recording equipment improvments.this is definity a ground breaking cd but blamed for influenceing limpbikit,Korn, and countless others but they all such.I can live without their rap influence but it work to expand the music some.these guys can really deleiver the goods great breakdowns, hooks and the gang vocals hit you like a mac truck and the subject matter most can relate to.certainly a force to be tacken seriously musical.a must have for hardcore fans not afraid of metal mixed in.

I remember listening to this album on cassette tape my senior year, when nobody had heard of them. In my opinion, it is the best album they ever put out. I recently re-purchased it on cd, havin lost the cassette tape so many years ago. Great soundclips from the warriors on wrong side of the tracks, and the godfather on retribution. I highly recommend this cd to anyone who likes biohazard or just plain likes a nice heavy sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars AND WHEN YA IN BROOKLYN U BESS WATCH YO BACK!!!, October 11, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Biohazard (Audio CD)
This album is the landmark of the heavier sound of NYHC. This is what was responsible for the new skool NYHC sound. Bands like Madball, Sick Of It All, even Vision Of Disorder learned much from these kats. I love the Warriors intro on Wrong Side. This explains to the listener that this is the real deal thug appeal.

5.0 out of 5 stars I will try again.., February 12, 2006
This review is from: Biohazard (Audio CD)
I allready wrote one review but for some reason it is not showing up. This is a great album from a fu*king great band. These guys started it all as far as I am concerned. But they did it harder and heavier than the nu-meal tickets that they spawned. You can tell that the knew what they were singing and playing about. Nothing like todays monkey see monkey do garbage flooding the airwaves today!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Place To Start For New York's Heavy Music, September 22, 2005

I started my Biohazard Music Collection in the late '90s with a
cassette (remember them?) of "State of The World Address". I was
quite impressed their muscular arrangements & pounding rhythmns.
The vocal style ranges from growling, to shouting, to multi-voice
chanting. There were probably comparisons to the rap/metal thing
going on at the time, but Biohazard can not be compared to Korn,
Limp Bizkit, or the like. (Note: When Biohazard chooses to add a
rap element to their work they go directly to the source throwin'
down with Onyx or The Mighty Cypress Hill!) Biohazard=New York, its darkside, its "Hardside". This debut(?) from 1990 is a raw, tight, yet not over-polished. It lays the ground work for future masterpieces like "New World Disorder" and "Uncivilization".

5.0 out of 5 stars Hardcore In Its Purest Form, December 2, 2002
By
Twitch (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Biohazard (Audio CD)
Biohazard is one of the most influential hardcore artists in modern music. With their loyal following of fans and fellow artists, they have taken the metal world hostage ever since the very beginning. As the reigning kings of true hardcore, these average Brooklyn boys have become a major staple in the world of the underground. Biohazard's hardcore roots can be summed up in this album, their self entitled debut. Their debut is undeniable proof that they have yet to sell out in a world the buys up wimp rock like candy. Normally, shoddy production turns me off when I listen to a record, but this brings out the trueness of the underground.... Musically, like every other Biohazard album, it is very strong. With the ability to go from hardcore riffs to some cheesey guitar solos in an instant, it seriously rocks hard. Vocally, Evan kills. His voice inspired metal records for years to come, and still screams just as good as he raps. Yes, I said raps. Let me warm you, this is not your normal rap-metal schlock that pollutes the airwaves of radio and MTV, this is the real thing. "Blue Blood" is probably my favorite track. It has a very memorable riff and just plain killer vocals. "Hold My Own" is a ground breaking mix of death and hardcore that will stick with you long after you finish listening to the album. Another track worthy of notice is "Victory". This song basically sums up all that hardcore stands for, loud, obnoxious, vulgar, and all out brutal. Biohazard's self entitled debut album is one of the greatest releases in the past decade, its brutal riffs, lyrics, and vocals make this one for the ages.
