5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Do Cloth Dipers without Bac-Out January 30, 2010
Size Name:1 pack / 32 Oz|Amazon Verified Purchase
Bac-Out is amazing! We were set on doing cloth diapers for our newborn, but were slightly afraid of the 'clean-up'. I also use the rice paper with my diapers. Changing is as simple as open the dipe, pull out the rice paper, spritz some Bac-Out on the soiled area and toss in the wetbag. This stuff smells fresh and clean - it takes the odor and stains out in a snap. I only wish it came in a larger refill jug.

I have previously used this product in the OLD FORMULA and it was WONDERFUL. The label read "NATURAL / NON-TOXIC / BIODEGRADEABLE" The ingredients list was: Natural enzyme-producing cultures, food grade lime extracts and stabilizers, vegetable-based stabilizers, and filtered water." It was very effective, left no residue on cleaning, and smelled natural and nice. Forget all that now!

The NEW formula is a DISASTER. It is slightly less effective, does not smell as good and smells a bit "chemical", and leaves a cloudy residue! The natural, non-toxic and bio-degradeable labling is GONE because they have TOXIFIED the product. Here are the new ingredients from the bottle. Water (filtered), Glycerin (vegetable), Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside (plant based surfactant), C10-16 Alkyl Glucoside (plant based), Laureth 7 (plant based surfactant), Citrus Terpenes, DIPROPYL GLYCOL, BENZISOTHIAZOLINONE, Viable Bacillus Cultures

Benzisothiazolinone:

Benzisothiazolinone is a heterocyclic compound.
Function(s): Preservative; ANTIMICROBIAL

"HIGH concerns: Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Occupational hazards; Other MODERATE concerns: ORGAN SYSTEM TOXICITY (non-reproductive); Other LOW concerns: Ecotoxicology"
"It is a known human immune system toxicant, and also is classified as irritant for skin, eyes and lungs."

Dipropylene glycol:

Dipropylene glycol is a small molecular weight SYNTHETIC solvent.

Laureth-7:

"Laureth-7 is a polyethylene glycol-based surfactant; may contain potentially toxic impurities such as Ethylene Oxide and 1,4-dioxane."

I WILL NOT BE BUYING THIS PRODUCT ANYMORE. I SUGGEST YOU ALWAYS USE GLOVES AND VENTILATION IF YOU USE THIS.

Based on this bait and switch I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANYMORE OF BIOKLEENS PRODUCTS!

3.0 out of 5 stars # of stars depends on your purpose.... November 21, 2010
Size Name:1 pack / 32 Oz
I'm of mixed feelings for this product...

As an enzymatic odor remover, this stuff gets 5 stars all the way. My cat has a fondness for peeing on one of my wool rugs, and this product does an amazing job of neutralizing the urine, cleaning the rug, and imparting an AMAZING lime smell into my room. For that purpose, I love this stuff!

However, as a basic laundry stain remover, bac-out gets one star from me. I wanted so badly to like this stuff, I did. For several loads, I tried it as my pre-treat on stains. Every stain was immediately treated, then treated again for good measure 30 minutes before laundering, but it just wasn't effective. When the stains were treated with Spray n Wash or even the Dollar Tree brand LA Awesome stuff, the stains came right out, washed in the same detergent (biokleen detergent with biokleen oxygenated bleach) at the same temperature. Really bummed me out, as I love the product otherwise.

For the reasons I used to love it, non-toxic, I totally hate it now. Way to go, screw up perfect product in a name of greed.
