After trying many other detergents on my diapers, I love this one! I used to have to strip my diapers monthly because of detergent buildup, and now I strip them quarterly, if that. It's really great stuff for diapers (I use BumGenius). I use it for my clothes, too, but I prefer the Bi-O-Kleen All Temperature Laundry Powder with Grapefruit Seed and Orange Peel Extract 5lb because it smells really good yet doesn't irritate my skin. But for diapers, the free & clear is unbeatable, in my opinion.

I first purchased this to use for the baby's laundry and diapers, then I started using it for the rest of the family. I've been really happy with the results. The baby is 10 months old now and I still have about a third of the box left. We are a family of 5 and do laundry all the time. It is the bottomless box of detergent! It is so concentrated that I only use about a third of what they recommend and our laundry comes out clean and fresh smelling. By the way, I have an old top loading machine, not an HE.

I noticed one reviewer said their laundry still smelled dirty after washing with it. Some synthetic fabrics will hold odors regardless of the detergent, but may not be noticeable because of the scent. This has no fragrance to cover these odors, and has not been a problem with us. I can tell you of the few items that have held a slight odor after washing, it is not noticable unless you get way too "up close and personal". I can happily report that socks, underwear, and diapers come out clean and smelling fresh with this product.

As with any detergent, I still pre-treat heavy dirt/stains. At first I thought biokleen was a little more expensive, but after seeing how long it lasts and how little is needed, it's the most affordable detergent out there.

This clothes soap works! The regular biokleen Laundry Powder also works but the very light grapefruity smell made me feel sick-I am very sensitive to perfumes. The light smell of the powder was not evident in the washed clothes-I just didn't like feeling dizzy every time I did the wash!
Biokleen Free & Clear Laundry Powder has NO SMELL WHATSOEVER! It cleans excellently. Has no problem dissolving in cold water. I like to use Oxo-Brite (also sold by Amazon) with the Biokleen for white and light colored items.
The cost is less than 10 cents a load for a HE washing machine. My supermarket sells only liquid HE compatable at a cost of almost50 cents a load!!
This soap can be used with ANY washing machine-regular top loading machines just use slightly more than a HE.
Since Amazon wants to ship four 10 lb boxes at a time you won't need to buy clothes soap for a LONG time-one less thing to keep track of. I wrapped the three boxes I'm not using right now in heavy weight plastic and taped the seams with packing tape and put them on shelves in my basement. Or, after seeing how well it cleans your clothes, give or sell for the cost the other boxes to friends and family members: whatever they are using right now is guaranteed to cost more. They will thank you for helping them keep expenses down. Would be a great gift for a newborn. Its extremely unlikely that this soap would give baby rashes, etc.

I actually bought this for my sister as a Christmas present. She has very sensitive skin and lots of allergies. I had bought her two boxes last year and she raved over it, and ask me to buy her more this past Christmas. I thought the auto delivery was a good deal.
She's raved over it so much the next delivery will be to me. She says it cleans better than any other laundry detergent she has tried. You only have to use a very small amount (two boxes lasted her almost a year--she lives alone.) And most of all no allergies, no itching, etc. Sounds like a bargain to me.

After my store quit stocking my previous detergent, I tried this. It did not work well in cold water: it just clumped together in the dispenser tray. Basically useless for cold water.

After I purchased this detergent, the price jumped up $20. I am really wondering why??? This detergent does NOT clean as well as my Purex or Tide did. Whenever I needed to really wash something dirty, I grabbed the bottle of Purex over this. I don't have any intentions of purchasing again. It scented clothes to smell clean, but frequently clothes were left dirty. That's why I still used Purex. When this wouldn't work, Purex did.

This laundry powder does not easily dissolve in water. Soft water at that (according to the water agency here in Portland, OR).

Like most front loading washing machines, mine has a tray which accepts, then flushes the detergent into the drum at the start of the wash cycle. While the previous powder detergent (Trader Joe's) we used was successfully washed down into the washing drum, this stuff gets wets and then hardens in the tray, never making it into the washing cycle. And I'm talking pretty much all of it becomes a rock, which I pull out whole at the end of the cycle. There's not even a drizzly trail indicating that a few grains made it.

Out of curiosity, I submerged the hardened clump of powder in a jar of water to see how easily it would dissolve. Not easily at all. I broke it into smaller parts with my fingers; shook it. Clink, clink, clink. I let it sit for a while then returned 20 minutes later, shook it vigorously again. Clink, clink, clink. It is now 45 minutes later and large pieces are still sitting at the bottom of the jar.

The only solution I can think of is to pre-dissolve this powder by stirring it into a small amount of water, and then putting it into the detergent tray. But who wants to do that?

The title of my review says it all. This stuff is much less expensive than other environmentally-friendly laundry detergents, is chemical- and fragrance-free, and it works. I was happy with my Seventh Generation liquid laundry detergent, but after trying this product, I've switched for good. Just 1-2 Tbsp. does a full load in my front-load washer, so the 10 lb. box I bought will last a very long time. Wonderful product!

In addition to this detergent, I love Biokleen's Bac-Out Fresh spray, which is a perfect replacement for Febreze!

Got this detergent per a friend's recommendation. My daughter has severe eczema and we have to be careful with what detergent we use. Hav not had any problems with this brand and it actually cleans! Have now bought the whole line for cleaning the rest of my house.

of the 4 boxes i received - 2 have suspicious yellow stuff mixed throughout the soap. i will not be using these 2 and will not order from here again. other 2 boxes did not have this yellow stuff.
