We thought we should be good to nature and give up some performance moving to an environmentally safe laundry powder. We have four kids and often do two loads a day, so making this change will mean a lot less mess from our waste water. Out went Tide and in went Bi-O-Kleen. The first thing we noticed was the fresh natural scent, not the pungent detergent scent from the major brands. I then noticed how little we had to use, how one box does 54 loads. Nice! And then old stains started to dissapear from our clothing. Old, kind of faded grease stains was gone! Also, dulled fabrics seemed to brighten up, but we are not sure if that's only our happines with the product rubbing off on the laundry.
We have been using this now for a while and we will never go back to the "old school powders". because not only is this good for nature, it's a better laundry powder alltogether!

Two thumbs up for Bi-O-Kleen,
This review is from: Biokleen Premium Plus Laundry Powder, 5-Lb. Boxes (Pack of 8) (Health and Beauty)
My son has skin allergies and I have to be very careful what types of products I buy that will touch his skin. In the last few years I have tried so many different laundry products and had a hard time finding something that worked for him and on my budget. Then I came across Bi-O-Kleen and decided to give it a try. I'm sure glad I did because not only does one box go a lloonngg way but my son doesn't break out in hives and his eczema cleared up.

The best soap I have ever used!!!,
This review is from: Biokleen Premium Plus Laundry Powder, 5-Lb. Boxes (Pack of 8) (Health and Beauty)
I can't believe how well this cleaned my clothes and how soft they are!!! I have tried all the natural laundry soaps and this is by far the best. I did not pre-treat any stains and all came out spotless and very soft. I also have a whole house chloramine/chlorine filter along with a water softener and had the same when using all the other products. The Charlies Soap made my clothes scratchy and the other products (7th Gen & Ecover...)never got the stains out or my husbands smelly workout clothes smelling fresh. I used one scoop (2TB)for a large load in my front loader.

Better than conventional detergents,

We have been using Bi-O-Kleen laundry detergent for close to ten years now, and I wouldn't use anything else. It gets out doggy odors! I first started using it because the company does not test its products on animals, and because it is environment-friendly. But, its performance matches or beats conventional detergents, especially when you factor in the cost. It is actually cheaper to use because it's so concentrated, which makes it ideal for front-loading washers.

Great Value and Performance for Front Loaders!,

This review is from: Biokleen Premium Plus Laundry Powder, 5-Lb. Boxes (Pack of 8) (Health and Beauty)
This is a powdered low sudsing detergent that works wonderfully in my front loading washing machine. It has a pleasant citrus scent and cleans well. I use a tablespoon per load or slightly more in my front loading machine. The included scoop is 4 tablespoon size so don't use the scoop if you have a front loading machine. At one tablespoon per load a 5 pound box would give approximaltely 150 loads in a front loader. Low sudsing detergents are usually more expensive per load than regular detergents so this is a great value.

After years of using this product I decided to go cheap and buy regular cheapo laundry detergent. Now I find I cannot bear the smell of my teen son's sweaty tee shiirts even after hanging on the line to dry. Maybe some other less cheap commercial laundry detergents would do better but if I am going to go less than cheap I am going back to this tried and true product which not only works but which I can also feel good about using.

I have been buying this for years, 1 box at a time. Currently, it sells for about $15.49 at Kroger's. I was absolutely thrilled to see it on the subscribe and save program at such a great price. It is the only soap I can use. Somewhere along the line I became highly sensitive to chemicals and can't use anything else. We visited family and after a couple days of using their bath towels, I was red and scratching. I now take my own towels when we visit family. We are on well water with a softener and it works well in our water. For those of you who commented that your whites do not come clean, add two tablespoons of the Bio-Kleen non-chlorine bleach, 1 oz of the liquid Bac-Out and use the heavy cycle and hot water. I guarantee your whites will be beautifully white. Even our dingy lawn-mowing socks (we push mow about an acre) come out white with this method. I use the liquid cold water Bio-Kleen detergent for good clothes, because I think the Premium Powder is so strong. We get plenty dirty working outside and it cleans everything and anything like a champ! The only problem I have had with it, is that it doesn't dissolve very well. I keep a plastic measuring cup at the machine and put the soap into it, run some water into the cup while the machine fills and then swish it and pour it into the tub and let it fill. I never find hard crusty pieces doing it this way. We recycle the box and I wish the company would use plastic scoops and bags that can be recycled. DO NOT USE A SCOOP OF THIS STUFF!! 1 tablespoon for front-loads, 2 tablespoons for top-loads and I have an extra large capacity top load. I love that it is not tested on animals, nor contains animal products. The artificial odors of Tide, etc. now make me ill. I can't even walk down those aisles at the stores. Our clothes only come out clean and fresh and they don't smell weirdly fake. We have six dogs in the house and it cleans up any mess they can make. I will leave that statement to your imagination. If you love animals, love your planet, and love clean clothes, give it a try!

Not good for stain removal or brightening whites,

I love eco-friendly products. And I have nothing against biokleen (their automatic dishwashing detergent works better than anything in my Bosch). But their powdered laundry detergent is a huge disappointment. I use this in my high-efficiency front-loader, and clothes come out dingy and stained. I've tried different amounts of this detergent and different cycles but can't seem to get it to work for my household. The nearly full box is literally sitting on the shelf because I have to pretreat all of the stains with Tide before I can use it! This product just doesn't work as well as it should. I'd be real careful about buying this in bulk if you're a first-time user.

A whole lot of cleaning,

I have used Bio-Kleen for years and have always been very satisfied with the results. Note that this is the oxygenated version that is supposed to brighten better than their regular formula. I think this one is slightly better but they are both so good it is difficult to say for sure.
I would suggest that first time buyers not buy in this quantity-- note that each box is 54 loads for a top-loader, they say to use half as much for a front loader like mine. I use 1/2 for lightly soiled loads and more like 2/3rds for heavily soiled loads. This buy would last me several years. For the user who had trouble with the cleaning power of this in March, I wonder if it has to do with water temperature. I don't think many powdered detergents dissolve well in frigid water. My washer has a cold setting that mixes in a small amount of warm water to bring frigid winter water up to simply cold(you could pre-dissolve in a cup of warm water to test).

Cheaper than name brands!,

On laundry day I'm reminded of an eco-conscience journalist who voiced confusion over the obscene amount of money American's invest into a billion-dollar industry which poisons lakes and steams and "cleans" our clothes with toxins and petroleum. However, the cost of "eco-friendly" detergents can cause sticker shock right there in the aisle. So, I compared bulk prices and got interesting results.
Cost per wash (based on brand measurements, include S&H): traditional name brand HE powder = $ 0.282 Bio-Kleen Premium Plus powder (HE-safe) = $ 0.273 Adding the Mystic Wonders Wonder Ball, a chemical-free laundry option while reducing the required amount of Bio-Kleen in half produces great results and reduces cost per wash, including the Wonder Ball purchase. = $ 0.178! |
