The Biology for dummies helped significantly during my year of college General Bio for PreMed. Although it does not replace the text book it helps to understand the text book. Lets face it, text books are hard to read. This book helped create a foundation that I could later easily expand on with the text book. It was also much more fun to read. I would read the section in this book first to get an idea on the subject than after I would read the section from the text book. This covered everything in my bio class. This is a must have for any college student in General Biology. It is also great for reviewing before finals!

Get this book if you need to review Bio or you are taking an intro to Bio class or an A&P class for review. THis is one of the best of the Dummy Science series and I wish the A&P Dummy book was more detailed. If you have to help your teen with a high school Bio class and you need to review the Krebs cycle...this is your book!

Great purchase. Would not have made it through my online Bio class without it!!!

While my shelves groan ever more threateningly as I pack on more science and math texts, I increasingly find that a quick look through a "For Dummies" title is a great way to check myself as I prepare to teach science concepts to 12-year-olds. This particular volume does a nice job of laying out the basics of biology. It has helped reduce the highly complex concepts of the life sciences into a framework of idea of appropriate complexity for the age group I teach and to be able to explain and understand how the biology of the 6th grade curriculum fits within the continuum of biological knowledge that my students will require as they proceed to high school and college.

Dr. Kratz eschews much of the cutesy/obnoxious "infotainment" that annoys the heck out of me in "For Dummies" books, and while she doesn't match the level of detail you'll find in your AP or college biology text, this is precisely the text to reach for when you find that the information in your assigned reading is going in your eyes and back out your ears faster than you can say Krebs cycle.

This book apparently is the most recent edition of the original book. Having no background whatsoever in biology, I purchased this to get an introduction and learn some basic concepts, and have not yet finished reading the book. It is amazing how complex the field of biology necessarily is, and it is slow but interesting reading for a "dummy" like me. While this book (like the whole "Dummies" series) is well written, I do think the author could have used clearer language in some places to explain one point or another -- maybe should have had people outside the field proofread the text for clarity. Overall, however, it has been a good purchase.

After doing some research on what book I wanted from the several I browsed and checking user reviews I settled on this book. I don't mind the name but I do mind that the book serve the purpose I buy it for and this book serves that purpose to the T. It is very enjoyable to read and study. As far as I have read it (and I don't have much time to read) I have enjoyed every chapter of it and expect to continue enjoying it. I was sure glad I got it from Amazon. The price was right and the contents are what I wanted. The reviews helped a lot especially when they were of people who have bought the book.
Happy studying!

Great book. It is very easy to read and makes learning fun. I truly love the Dummies books. I am not from the USA, so for me it is more for learning biology in English. It sounds strange, but things like Biology and Chemistry have words and expressions that are not used on your everyday and that is a great way to learn them.

Excellent book. Break down the subject so anyone could understand it. Good suppliment for those in High School taking Biology but need further instruction simplified. I would highly recommend this book.
