ENHANCING YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Biology of Success (Hardcover)
Once again Dr Bob has provided a road map to realizing ones full potential. While his previous work concentrated on diet and fitness ( "..guide to turning back the clock" and "..revolutionary weight control program")Dr bob's new book completes the picture by incorporating advice for creating and maintaining the positive mental attitude which is the foundation of success. His emmminently readable style and usefull personal examples make this book not only interesting but easy to use in your day to day life. after reading the section on using music to create a mental mood I have been using netradio.com to broadcast jazz through my office computer. I have lowered my level of stress and find it easier to focus on what is important. If you incorporate only one of the many recommendation into your daily life you will find that this book is an excelent investment in yourself.

"SIMPLY THE BEST-KNOW HOW/HOW TO BOOK EVER WRITTEN.,
By keith m fleming (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Biology of Success: Set Your Mental Thermostat to High with Dr. Bob ARnot's Prescription for Achieving Your Goals! (Audio Cassette)
This book was a very pleasant suprise. Finally an M.D. who's not affraid to be bold by clearly providing concrete tools for the attainment of self-mastery and success. This straight forward, very well written and edited book is the best book I've ever read. It covers the full spectrum of being human. From being creative, excercise, daily rituals, everything about improving your station in life. He provides a clear blueprint for success. The greatest part is that he isn't affraid to touch on non-mainstream ideas, i.e. feng shui. This has been a wonderful daily companion because it's so easy to read. He clearly gets right to the point and he doesn't try to add fluff. This is a real-life instruction manual and should be made available to everyone - almost as a prerequisite to graduation. This isn't pop-psychology or a fad book, it's much more...it's real. Not too lengthy or full of extras, just good information. I strongly recommend it to corporate managers, Families as well as everyday ordinary people. Everyone can benifit from this book. Don't read another review, don't waste time. Buy it now and start to change your life, start living.

Obvious and Insulting,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Biology of Success (Hardcover)
After reading a review of this book in a magazine, I bought it expecting information I could use in my daily life. Instead, the book runs the gamut from the obvious (music affects your mood) to the insulting (if you ever feel stuck or in a rut, just go helicopter skiing in the Canadian Rockies!!). Uh, gee, thanks Bob. Next time I have a year's salary to blow on a vacation I'll be able to take you up on that. Most of Dr. Bob's advice will be useful only to those with six-figure-plus salaries and lots of control over how they spend their time. If you're an ordinary working person, like me, earning an average salary and lacking control of the hours of her day, pass this one by.

A Message and a Scientific Messenger,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Biology of Success (Hardcover)
Rooted in firm scientific research. Go for it. The Biology of Success is all that. Author Arnot knows what he is talking about. The subject is not new however. It did help me con new terminology to describe the practical philosophy of survival I have learned through the examples of others. I highly recommend reading another book -- LIFE WITH NOAH. Unlike Arnot's cosmopolitan publication, the narrative doesn't stress diet, exercise and altering one's environment. Yet the message is similar. Take control of your life. Get out doors. Involve yourself in meaninful activity. Channel your mind. Rid yourself of the many negatives found in civilization and you will awaken to a new spiritual landscape -- all from the perspective and through the experience of a woodsman and his life time friend, Noah John Rondeau, the hermit of Cold River Flow. This book does not collect dust. I find myself continually rereading portions. I have yet to find more spiritual nature writing from the heart.

Misleading title full of clichés and obvious advices,
This review is from: The Biology of Success (Paperback)
"The Biology of Success. Feel Great, Focus your energy, Master the power of positive thought, Maximize your potential for success". Absolutely misleading, I bought the book, and I can tell that you probably won't learn anything new from it. The topics Dr. Robert Arnot addresses are covered more thoroughly and helpfully in other books.
As an example, here are some of the obvious advices and observations the author gives you, as words of wisdoms: - Bright light makes you more alert, but dim light would induce drowsiness. - Cold and dry air, especially in the face, makes you more alert, while hot wet ambient conditions induce drowsiness. - Music affects your mood. - If you can't say something good, don't say anything at all. Save your money, and invest it in other book. After I bought the book I found only 10 of the almost 400 pages of this book to be really worthy; the tables on the glycemic index of some carbohydrates, and the Protein and Fatty Acids tables, but even this information could be found in other books.

Better than I expected it to be...,
By
This review is from: The Biology of Success (Paperback)
I never write reviews on the books that I read, but after I read this book, and especially after I read some of the negative reviews that it got, I was compelled to defend some of its points. First of all, if most or all of what Dr. Arnot claims in his book to be true, is just "common sense", then why doesn't everyone automatically do these simple things to improve their lives? We live in a society where almost 30% of our population is obese, antidepressants are overprescribed and all of our children seem to have ADD. We ignore and take for granted the simple pleasures available to us, like putting on some Beethoven and a little aroma therapy to relax. Regulating our sleep patterns in order to be at the top of our game may be common sense, but how many of us don't get the recommended 8-10 hours each night?
I realized, like other readers, that this book was very simple and sometimes made you say, "well duh." But I believe the purpose of this book was to emphasize and bring to light those so-called simple things, and help us realize that these subtle changes are all we need in order to make positive things happen in our lives. I really appreciated the sections on exercise for improving the quality of life and as a personal trainer, believe that when your health and fitness become your first priority, then everything else just falls into place. I can honestly say that I got more out of this book than I had hoped for, and am very pleased. This is definitely a book that you can come back to and refresh your memory on those "simple things" that we seem to forget. Check it out at your local library, or get it from amazon- but if you are in need of organizing your life- just read it. I promise even the most cynical person will get something positive out of it- just make sure to apply it to your life daily otherwise the information will be useless. Thanks for reading!

Lazy and irresponsible,
By Glissot (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Biology of Success (Hardcover)
If you've read a single self-help book, you've read this one. Come to think of it, Bob Arnot's "keys to success" are the same things your mother's been telling you for years: eat right, get plenty of sleep, exercise often and stay positive. But beyond the shock of having paid 30 bucks for such "expert advice," you also get a presciption worthy of a quack, not a respected physician: that in order to fully realize one's potential, even the mentally healthy should experiment with prescription anti-depressants. While it's no surprise that prescription anti-depressants have done tremendous good for those suffering from catastrophic mental illness, even for those experiencing short-term, situational depression, it's also no surprise that, in our HMO era of doling out pills to save on costly long-term therapy, prescription anti-depressants are already over-prescribed by GPs. As a physician - one who furthermore reaches millions of viewers and countless more through books like this - it's highly irresponsible of Dr. Bob to urge prescription drug experimentation to the healthy with no evidenciary support for his claims of enhanced performance and no acknowledged consideration of the potentially detrimental effects of such use. First, Doctor, do no harm. The doctor also repeatedly plugs one company for light systems, "pink noise machines," etc. - an obvious advertisement (got stock, Bob?), and one that failed to even make mention that numerous companies offer the same products. Not only am I returning this dog, I'm tuning out the doctor's orders forever.

A Good Read!,
This review is from: The Biology of Success: Set Your Mental Thermostat to High with Dr. Bob ARnot's Prescription for Achieving Your Goals! (Audio Cassette)
This book is a primer for anyone who wants coaching in how to structure your life to maximize your success. The coaching is scientifically oriented, yet the book is imminently practical. Science is used to describe and explain the benefits of the suggested techniques, not to challenge the reader. More specifically, science is used to support numerous non-scientific coaching concepts, which could not be scientifically explained until recently. We [...] recommend this book to business people who want to maximize their mental energy in a way that improves their chances of success.
