After about a week of normal nighttime use, the filter needs changing! Ugh. It doesn't wick the water up anymore. I called Bionaire who said filters should last 4 weeks. They blamed hard water but we have Culligan soft water! So they sold me more filters and some water softener to use when I fill the basin to see if the filters will last longer. The filters also have a black layer that crumbles all over. Messy. I'm close to trashing it and buying another kind without a filter. My last Evenflo humidifier filter didn't behave this way; it stayed wet and continued working even with a 'full/dirty' filter so I'm not happy about the Bionaire stopping humidifying. Their processing takes 3 weeks for me to get the new filters and that's not acceptable.

The unit is very quiet and you have to be careful when moving it otherwise it will spill but it's never 'leaked'.

Very quiet, easy to use. Has nice settings, low, high and or you can choose a percent humidity. I was the filter once a week and have never had any issues.

There are about 2 categories of humidifiers: evaporative and ultrasonic.

This particular model or most of Bionaire brand models are evaporative version of the humidifier. That means, it uses a fan to create active air flow through a "filter" that wicks water up into a large surface are to generate humid air. Very very primitive way to generate humidity. Plus you need to change out the filter every so often because the filter loses its water absorbing ability.

Ultrasonic version of humidifiers vibrate water molecules and separate them apart and create water mist. This is by far more active way of creating humidity and this process is much more quiet. No filter involved.

I would never pay full price for this item. It is not as quiet as any of the ultrasonic humidifiers I have ever owned.

You can set the machine to go on and off by selecting the humidity level you would like to keep at. It is a good feature but when the fan goes on and off at night, it is loud enough to wake me up.

By design, the base of the machine is like a tray with full of water, meaning, if you had the machine running and wish to move it to a different location, you will be moving a tray with full of water. You will have hard time keeping the water inside of the machine.

So, 3 stars out of 5 because I paid less than 20 bucks for it. It works, but I will be buying ultrasonic instead when this breaks down. Definitely not worth its full price..

I bought one of these and I will be returning it (or throwing the damn thing away, if a return isn't possible) and buying a different brand. The instruction manual tells you to place it on a "waterproof pad" and not to place it on carpets or rugs that may be damaged by water. I assumed this meant it might drip a little, which sounded reasonable enough.

Wrong. It means the product gushes gallons of water out the bottom like a fountain.

I ran it overnight in our bedroom, sitting in a roasting pan in case of drips. After a few hours the roasting pan had filled up completely and the base of the product was getting dangerously close to being immersed.

I don't know where you're supposed to put this product so it would neither destroy your flooring or immerse itself in water and then blow out. Assuming I didn't get a defective one, it seems very poorly designed and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Apart from the horrendous leakage, it runs quiet and produces a good amount of humidity.

Wells well for me. I was confused by another reviewers comment about changing the filter after a week, I took 3 months of constant use for our filter to be changed.

This is sleak, easy to use, has NEVER leaked, and is SUPER quiet. I just can't figure out which filter it uses. In retrospect I should have bought some at the same time...
