5.0 out of 5 stars finally a room heater that does just that. no bonus noise, weight or danger

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for 4 months
I purchased this unit at Sears about 2 years back. It kept me warm through the night and I could agree with other reviewers that Bionaire was a great product. After the winter was over, I put the unit away in my closet. When another winter arrived, the Biornaire heater was put to use again, but this time the unit did not perform as well. My new home came with central heating. I loved the convenience, but wanted a heater for the bedroom so I didn't have to heat the entire home through the night, when it was only one room we needed heat in. There began my quest for a portable electric heater!

My first try was a Bionaire Digital Tower Ceramic Heater. It went right back to the store the moment I realized how powerful (read : noisy) the fan inside was. It did do a decent job warming up the room though.

I knew I'd like something quiet. Real quiet. My next try was an Oil Filled Radiator. It was much quieter - just low clicking sounds (probably from the metal or oil expanding?) - but failed to impress on heating. It took almost an hour to make a significant difference to a cold room (12x14) - and barely kept the temperature up through the night with the thermostat dialled up. When in use - the surface turned really hot - and I worried about someone stepping into it in the middle of the night - or my cat scalding herself while trying to kill it :)

I decided to try the Bionaire BH3900 - it promised swifter heating and a cool surface. My wife and me were delighted! It warms the room up much swifter than the oil filled radiator and is absolutely silent! The heat mostly escapes out the top - and there isn't a lot of heat radiated to the sides. The grille on the side makes this look more elegant than the radiators - and just gets luke warm even when this has been running all night. And while my cat has sniffed at the grille (when on) - she hasn't been tempted into attacking it yet.

This was twice the price of the other options we looked at - but were sold on it the first night we tried using it. I wish the thermostat were digital (knob takes some tweaking to find your sweet spot) - but our quest for a heater has ended.

PS. Bought it off the Bionaire website with a 10% off, free shipping, no tax for 89.99.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Heater for an enclosed room..., October 3, 2005

This heater really punches out some serious heat and is EXTREMELY quiet. We have a 3 year old daughter and I felt it was completely safe as none of the part got hot.. they were very warm but not warm enought to burn skin. We ultimately ended up returning this heater but only becuase the room we had it in was our great room and I think it was just to big and open fo rhte heater to make a difference. But if you have a smaller to average room this is a great heater to get!

We bought one after reading the reviews and tried it in our large basement which is always a few degrees cooler then the rest of the house. After having it on for an hour the basement felt wonderful. no degrees of difference. We were shocked that this little heater can put out so much heat. No longer using blankets when watching T.V in the basement. I am going to get one more in case they stop making this product. It is light weight and has a handle on one end to easly roll it where you need it... also it is wonderful if you have small kids around it. The grill is warm yet not hot enough to burn your hand. A great product!

Well worth the money!!!

The heater shut itself off after 10 minutes; I followed the reset instruction but the heater was on for less than five minutes and shut itself off again. I called the customer service to report the problem because the unit was used for only 4 months. They offer me a replacement unit which is a HS3800-U, at my own shipping cost. The lesson here is to purchase a warranty with your bionaire products. That way, you are not struggling with a decision of whether or not you should spend money on the shipping ( both ways ) or just put that money toward a new product.

I always wondered who the people were who wrote these reviews. I tend to go online, read the reviews, place an order (or not) and never look back. But in this case, this product is great. I based my decision on another reviewer that mentioned he had a 3 year old. I too have a 3 year old, and as soon as i turned this thing on, she walked right up to it, put her hands on it and said "hot". Of course it was warm to touch, but completely safe. Additionally this thing also heats her room up nicely at a very low thermastat setting. Time to get one for my room since natural gas prices are so high. this thing is expensive, but why muck with 50 bucks when you can be completely satisfied

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, August 13, 2005

This review is from: Bionaire BH3900-U Convection Console Heater with Adjustable Thermostat (Kitchen)
I had one of these last December 2004. I got it at Sears for an unbelievable price of $27.00 !!! They work great on heating an entire room, silently; even on the 500 watt setting. It is sylish, but will show up in your room, due to it's height and size. 14 Lbs weight is sort of heavy, but it's on casters. It's simple to operate, and the controls are upfront where you can see them, and reach them, without stooping. I did not keep mine, because I thought that an digital heater would be better. I was wrong! This heater will truly keep you warm, and will not disturb your sleep. It's elements do not glow, and there is no fan. I wish that I had not taken it back to the store. It's a nice heater, that has no oil in it, no fans, no hot, glowing elements. Also, it has a safety grill around it, that kids can't get to the element. Very safe!

5.0 out of 5 stars space heater Bionaire, October 26, 2005
This review is from: Bionaire BH3900-U Convection Console Heater with Adjustable Thermostat (Kitchen)
pros-Taking into consideration that this is a SPACE heater I am 110% happy with this heater. Heats up fast!! Blasts tons of heat quietly, mostly from the top. And easily heats 1/4 area of my 40'x30' living room. Aside for the warmth you do not know it is even on. Totaly mute operation! There are side panel that protect from burns.

cons-Have to heat ceiling first as heat rises most from the top of the unit. still gets the job done. Has to be rest, if over heats shuts off and has to be unplugged for 10 minutes, guess this isnt really a con as it is a safety devise. But, I had one incident where it would not turn on when first plugged in. I just had to reset it.

all in all...I am running out and buy another tomorrow. Found them for $60 locally

5.0 out of 5 stars Great performance, November 9, 2005
This review is from: Bionaire BH3900-U Convection Console Heater with Adjustable Thermostat (Kitchen)
This is a wonderful choice of heaters, especially for anyone with children and/or pets. The sides do not get hot at all, preventing some common burns. Most of the heat rises from the top of the unit, rather from the sides. Of course that means you need to wait a little while before feeling the full effects of this heater, but it is worth the safety the unit offers. We have two of them and are completely satisfied with them.

I was shopping for one for a family member when I came upon this site. I have found them cheaper locally.

4.0 out of 5 stars heated review, April 3, 2005
By
J. H. (Allen, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
I owned this very model briefly, back in NOV 2004. I got it at Sears as a "Clearance", and it was drastically reduced in price. It normally sold for $97.00, and Sears had marked it down to $27.00 !! If you want one, wait till a store marks it way down in price; cause it is not worth $97.00 to $140.00 that it normally sells for. How did it perform? It will heat your entire room in minutes, with a quiet, blanket of warmth. It has no fans in it, no oil, no water, and a very protective safety case around it. It rolls on casters, but weighs half what an Oil-filled radiator heater does. It's very stylish, has thermostat, power light, and heat selector for 500 watts or 1500 watts. It also has cord storage. The thermostat is the quietest I have ever heard. No clicks! It seems to cycle on-off quite often, even on low setting of temp. What I noticed, was that the heater I had, never did warm the entire heat grid, but mainly just half of it. I did return it to Sears; but now wish that I had not. This is a good heater, easy to move, and it will warm your room on low heat setting of 500 watts, totally silent. It also has warranty of 3 years. Just wait till it drops in price to get one. If all other heaters have failed you, this one; BH3900U from Bionaire, will totally please you, and will not disturb your TV, Music, or Sleep.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good heater!, February 8, 2006
This review is from: Bionaire BH3900-U Convection Console Heater with Adjustable Thermostat (Kitchen)
I got Bionaire BH 3900 heater from BJs for $59 only. Amazon.com's market place is far too expensive to shop. I used to shop a lot at Amazon.com in the past, but now I have to go somewhere else, as lots of things I wanted were no more available at the Amazon.com, although I could still get it here ( from the third party seller) but the price & the shipping rate are ridiculously high, like this model here Bionaire BH3900, you could get it for $59 each at BJS, why pay $103 plus shipping here ? I got my two NEW delonghi oil filled radiators ---MG15T for $63 and HM25T for 74 ,which included $13 & $14 shipping rate from the Neweggs.com, I odered it yesterday morning & arrived this afternoon, I didn't pay for the express delivery, just a standard shipping, I was very impressed by newegg.com. If I had purchased from here I would have to pay a lot more!
