5.0 out of 5 stars Great tower fan.
With the weather getting hotter here in NYC, it was time to buy a good tower fan. Electricity here is expensive, so we try to use fans to their fullest extent.

This unit is built much more sturdily than the other tower fans we've used - Sunbeam and Honeywell. I don't have any concerns this unit will fall apart on me. And the volume of air it pushes out is...

1.0 out of 5 stars If you need the remote DON'T BUY THIS FAN
Had the fan 3 weeks when the remote stopped working. Bought new batteries..still dead. This unit is built much more sturdily than the other tower fans we've used - Sunbeam and Honeywell. I don't have any concerns this unit will fall apart on me. And the volume of air it pushes out is pretty good compared to these other fans. On medium setting you can feel it 18 feet away.

And it's pretty quiet to boot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Off button is fine, April 13, 2010

I just purchased this fan and I love it. Its very quiet and has a great range when oscillating. Covers the entire room. The remote control is nice too. I have read several people say they didnt like that you had to cycle through the speeds to turn it off but on mine if you just hold the button down for a second or two it will turn off no problem - sometimes it helps to actually read the directions :) No need to cycle all the way through the speeds.

It did take me a few minutes to line up the screws but nothing too bad.

A great tower fan that runs quietly and smoothly, and looks great to boot! I live in NYC, so right now, we are getting creamed by some crazy heat and humidity, so the fan runs pretty much 24/7 and we haven't had a problem with it in the 1.5 months that we have had it. The design is also clean and very contemporary (think high-end air purifier), so it should fit into any decor.

The only drawback that I can see, albeit a minor one, is that the fan speed/power switch are one in the same, so you have to cycle through off/on, and 1/2/3 speeds to get to where you want to go. As I said, not a big problem, but it is a little quirky at first. The remote is a plus too. Other than that, it has everything you could look for in a tower fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Portable AC for any room, September 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bionaire BT440RC-U 42-Inch 3-Speed Tower Fan with Remote Control (Kitchen)
I have been trying lots of brands of portable AC. The only one that have been working for me is this product. I actually have two of them now. AC is very cool, nice shape, easy to move from room to room. Speeds are useful, but 3rd grade is kind of noisy. I love the modern style, and most important it works very well. We have been using both during the last three months almost 8-12 hours per day and so far they keep working properly. Most of the product in the market last about 3 months in Miami....This one is already 4 months, and cool our room amazingly.

Downside is the remote control, which we struggle to make it work by just clicking. We have to push the bottoms very hard. Also the fact that we have to go through all the speeds to shut it down is kind of boring. It should have a switch just on/off as any other product.

My first one of these fans ran mostly 24x7 for almost 21 months. I use it in the winter to circulate the uneven heat in my apartment. I leave it on all night and all day. In the summer, I use it to circulate the cool air from my air conditioner. I always left it on during the day when I went to work. The bearing finally started chirping after 21 months. I never cleaned the thing either. I expect to get another two years out of the new one. Oh yeah, great way to dry off after a shower, lol.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, September 20, 2010
This review is from: Bionaire BT440RC-U 42-Inch 3-Speed Tower Fan with Remote Control (Kitchen)
I purchased one of the these fans from Costco and was immmediately disappointed with the quality. The internal mechanical components rattled. I found the fan to be very noisy and ended up returning it.
Another mass-produced junk....

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as they used to be, August 7, 2010
This review is from: Bionaire BT440RC-U 42-Inch 3-Speed Tower Fan with Remote Control (Kitchen)
Not sure what happened to the Bionaire brand in the past 6 years. Did they catch up with the trend and moved their entire production and quality control to China? I bought Bionaire BT45RC-UC Remote Control Tower Fan back in November 2003 for my Mother and it was a fine product - looked good, had solid build, and still working fine today (albeit it has not been heavily used). Overall we were (and still are) very pleased with the product. So, when I needed a fan for my daughter's dorm, I naturally turned to Bionaire and picked up Bionaire BT440RC-U 42-Inch 3-Speed Tower Fan with Remote Control from my local B,B&B store (price at Amazon was better, but I had the feeling that I might need to return it so I chose the local outlet). Boy, what a difference the 6 years made. Putting aside the fact that the remote did not work at all right from the start (and yes, I tested the battery and it was fine; there is definitely a design flaw with the way it's situated in the remote) it was just awful. It was blowing air fine, but it's made out of the cheapest (and definitely not appliances grade) plastic I have ever seen, was rather noisy, with counter intuitive controls, and pretty flimsy too. And I am not comparing this to some other brand but to an ancestor product from the same company! Needless to say it went straight back to the store but this is just depressing - what a shame...

I've had the fan almost a month, so far so good. I agree the setup is uncomplicated but a little annoying when trying to line up the screws. My only minor gripe is that you can't simply press the off button once to turn off the fan. You have to press it 2 or 3 times because the same button is used for fan speed. Overall very good.
