5.0 out of 5 stars Bionic Commando
I think this is the best game for Gameboy Color. I love it, but it is a little difficult.I'm stuck at level 11. I can't beat the boss. The graphics are very good.I like how you can be a girl or a boy commando. It is also cool how you get a special item after you beat a level. I also like to swing using my claw, sometimes just for fun. If you like action games,I really...

3.0 out of 5 stars Grappling can never replace jumping . . .
I never played the original Bionic Commando, so I cannot acurately compare it to this remake. What I'm told, though, is that the female commando is new.
This is essentially a mission-based side-scroller that also stems to occasional bloody sniper-modes and some omni-scrolling. The play-control is done rather well, except that you cannot jump. Instead, you have to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bionic Commando. The best gameboy color game!, February 10, 2001

This review is from: Bionic Commando: Elite Forces (Game Cartridge)
If I did not already have A Color Gameboy when this came out, I would have bought one just to play this. This game is an action game, just as good ( or better ) as the original for the NES. You can choose between A male and female commando to play through the game. Depending which one you play you will go to a few different levels. They also each have one different weapon, but I never could tell any difference from the other ones besides the names.

There are 15 Normal stages in the game and 2 secret ones. It's really cool how instead of jumping you must use A grappling arm to get to higher places. It shouldn't take too long to get used to it.

One of the things I love about this game the most besides the fun factor, is the awesome music. Not everyone may like it, but the music really stuck with me.

I have played through the game countless times since I have bought game the game. And I will probably play it many more times.

If you want a good game for the Game Boy Color, get this. The controll, while you can't jump, is easy, and the graphics are what you expect from a box cover. There are a few differnces between the male and female characters, ones a bit faster while the other has a stronger weapon. Also stage 9 is different. The sound is a different story, first of all, the vioce is scratchy, the music is really repetitive, and the sound effects could've been better, but other than that, it's great all around.

5.0 out of 5 stars A excellent version of the NES classic., May 7, 2000

Bionic Commando was my favorite game for the NES and this version is solid. The graphics are crisp, detailed and the animation is incrediable for a GB game, reministant of Flashback or Prince of Persia. In a few spots in the game your character actually goes behind object, a nice touch I've never seen in a GB game before. The choice of the two different characters is a nice visual touch, but dosen't really add anything to the game as the two characters play exactly the same. The controls are solid but the bionic arm takes some getting used to, as does the lack of a jump command. Several places in the game require you to do some seriously complicated swinging where in a normal game a short jump would do. This on occasion can get frustrating. But the plus side is the bionic arm allows for some seriously cool stunts and quick saves from falling. The game is fairly difficult but not frustrating, aside from a few parts where a simple jump would be nice. The enemies are frequent and fairly tough, espcially the bosses. Two "mini-games" add varity to the game, one a top-view scroller (ported from the original game)and an small sniper game that is so graphically impressive it should be its own game. The sound is decent enough so you can bare to listen to it, which is about the best you can hope for on the GB and there's several snippets of medium-quality voice. A few gripes for an outstanding game: You can't crawl or shot up or down, the Nazi's in the original game have been changed to a mythical enemy nation, and I'd have just rather had one character to choose from and no speech and have a few more levels, but over all this is probably the best GB game out now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bionic Commando left me hanging., July 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bionic Commando: Elite Forces (Game Cartridge)
Not as in left me hanging not knowing what to do in the game, it merely freezes everytime I try to enter a level after fighting an enemy truck. Talk about a pain! I've read somewhere else people complain about Bionc Commando freezing up on their GameBoys, yet I see no one talking about it here. It happend on my GBC, and now it happens on my GBA. I still can't get into to level 6 for crying out loud. this is a big problem, that can only be fixed, I found out, by sending your GBC or GBA and the game into Nintendo, where they will fix it for free and whatever. I say, that's good, but right now I'm in the middle of LEgend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, I don't feel like interuppting my gameplay at the moment. It's really a shame, because I love this game!! The graphics are amazing, how they crammed such life-like human motions into a GB is beyond me. And I wish people would stop complaining about the "irritating music". Where have they been? I love the music! It's also very detailed. You can tell if eletric guitars and drums are playing along with a rock organ at one point. And cymbals and stuff. It's really very entertaining. The BOSSes are hard, but you just WANT to beat them, so you keep doing it and suddenly its like "Oh, now I know what to do!" And you get rid of 'em. I'd love to say "Buy IT!" but not if it means it'll freeze up your system. Hey, if you really like, go ahead and get it, maybe it won't give you a problem, but if it does, Nintendo will fix it.

I remember when I got the game for my old NES, it was so much fun I used to play it all nite long. Now that nintendo is realesing all the NES classics on the GBC I am a very happy camper. The game is soo fun, but hard in places, and you have to get used to the control system.

I bought this game for only one reason, because I love the original NES version soo much. The original NES version was a perfect side scroller action game that you can play over and over without getting tired of it. I was a little disapointed with the Gameboy Color version but after a while, it begins to grow on you. It may not be as good as the NES version but this game is still worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you liked the NES version of Bionic Commando..., May 1, 2001

If you liked the NES version of Bionic Commando, this Gameboy Color version makes the NES version look archaic!! New levels, two characters to choose from (the strong male, and the agile female), beautiful graphics, smooth scrolling, and detailed character animations truely make this cartridge stand out. With the traditional side scrolling levels, and top-down battles when intercepting enemy trucks, and a new 3rd type of combat in sniper mode that is optional for powerups during a mission, the game will definately keep you entertained. 3 save slots are available on this cartridge. Also, if you are mid-mission, and you need to quit back to the map to change equipment or save, holding Select, A, and B all at the same time will exit the mission and bring you out.

When I bought this game I found it frustrating, but after a while I became good at it and now I'm on the last level. This game is frustrating so don't buy it for someone with little patience because they'll get mad in the 1st ten minutes. Also don't buy it for someone under the age of 9 because it isn't very easy. But if your child is 9 or above I reccemend it for them.
