Grade 4–6—This solid and readable introduction to the field of bionics is divided into four chapters: "Replacing Parts," "Fixing Malfunctions," "Assisting the Senses," and "Facing the Future." Jango-Cohen uses a number of personal stories and references to pop culture to engage readers. She profiles Lyn Kolsteren, who received a bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA). In the first chapter, she highlights Darth Vader and Dr. Octopus from the film Spider-Man 2 as examples of replacing parts. The explanations are clearly written and easily understood. Colorful photographs and illustrations are featured throughout the text and captions appear in colorful bubbles.
