I’ll start by admitting my bias. I have been a fan of Christopher Marley’s work since I read his first book, Pheromone. In the years since, I have been lucky enough to add a few of his compositions to my personal collection, and my admiration for his work has only grown.

Compared to Pheromone, this book is longer and about half the price. The pages of Biophilia are not as thick as in Pheromone, but still have a luxurious texture and turn without sticking. The photographs are printed in glossy, true-to-life color. This large, heavy book would make an engaging coffee-table centerpiece.

The book begins with a thoughtful introduction from Marley. He describes his own inspiration while also exploring the relationship between mankind and the natural world. While somewhat philosophical, the light tone prevents the text from reading as pretentious.

The photographic portion of the book begins with a section on insects, probably my favorite section of the book. Here, the often-reviled “creepy-crawlies” of the world are showcased as things of beauty and wonder. This section includes simple compositions like one highlighting the iridescence of a single cuckoo wasp and complex compositions like the aestetica mosaic which is utterly captivating as the seemingly unrelated colors and lines of myriad insects come together in one harmonious arrangement.

The next section of the book includes sea creatures from Marley’s Reclamation line (harvested from animals who have died in the wild or in captivity—none of the subjects were killed for the sake of art, but rather, they were elevated to immortality through art following their natural demise).

Nice, but I expected more actual nature art... contains a lot of "dead stuff" it seems

This book is absolutely breath taking. I am a fashion designer and its one of my biggest inspirations. As I turn the pages, I never want the book to end.

Visually stunning. There is something for everyone in this gorgeous book. If you can't own every piece of his inspired art, this is the next best thing. For those in business, I think this would make a terrific gift (thank-you or otherwise) for a client or a prosect. This would also be a unique house warming gift. There is not a person I can think of this would not be perfect for. I have been a fan for at least 8 years. After I have loved on my copy enough, it may be donated to the grade school so I can buy a new one! Thank you for making bugs and art more approachable and accessible to everyone.

Wasn't as impressed with it as I thought I'd be but it is still fun to look at.

I'm a huge fan of the first book, "Pheromone:The Insect Artwork of Christopher Marley" and have been awaiting the release of this book for nearly a year now. I'm happy to say, it more than lives up to expectations! The photography is stunning and the variety of subjects will keep you eagerly turning pages to see what new surprise is in store. My favorite section is "Unity" where Marley has paired the most unlikely specimens (i.e. a snake and a bird, a lizard and carnivorous plants) side-by-side, highlighting startling similarities in appearance that we would otherwise never dream of. This book is not only a visual treat, it is also peppered with Marley's personal perspectives on conservation, our increasingly 'virtual' and 'digitized' society and reverence for nature - as well as glimpses into his own (sometimes shocking) interactions with the natural world as a child and young adult which helped shape him into the artist and designer he is today. Biophilia and Pheromone are absolute must-have books for anyone who appreciates art, nature, design or just wants a beautiful coffee table book.
