4.0 out of 5 stars Slow and more blood
(This is an update as of September 25, 2007.) I have now used the test four times. The claim that the test requires only a couple of drops of blood is a little glib. The lancets in the last three kits were much better than the ones in the first kit (the new lancets can produce some BIG drops of blood), but in order to comply with the instructions you will probably need...

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy and cheap, but customer service droops
The preparation part it easy, though you almost need to be a hemophiliac to get enough blood with a single prick. The harder part is getting results. Days dragged by and I called multiple times as they finally said that the chemical they needed was late in coming. A lab should not be without necessary processing materials; and results should not be delayed. Also, they...

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow and more blood, September 25, 2006
This review is from: Biosafe Diabetes (A1c) Test, Blue (1 test) (Health and Beauty)
(This is an update as of September 25, 2007.) I have now used the test four times. The claim that the test requires only a couple of drops of blood is a little glib. The lancets in the last three kits were much better than the ones in the first kit (the new lancets can produce some BIG drops of blood), but in order to comply with the instructions you will probably need more than one finger stick. The results have been consistent with the laboratory results I get through my doctor and the results I used to get with the now-discontinued Choice A1C Home Test. The time from mailing to receipt of results in New Jersey has gotten steadily worse -- 7, 12, 14 and 20 days, but it is possible to get a real person on the phone to give you the test result. Biosafe's privacy policy is very weak and their laboratory authorization form is intrusive. I declined to disclose my Social Security number and e-mail address.

This is a fine product. Directions are clearly illustrated and easy to follow. If you only need "three drops" of blood, they will have to be very large drops; still, if you're used to pricking your fingers, this should be no big deal.

Cost is very reasonable. Test results came promptly in the mail.
And the results matched a laboratory A1C, I had performed during the same week, just to confirm the results, and help me decide whether I want to use the BioSafe kit again. I definitely do plan to use it again, and again...and....

5.0 out of 5 stars Biosafe (A1c) Test, November 17, 2007
This review is from: Biosafe Diabetes (A1c) Test, Blue (1 test) (Health and Beauty)
I tried one of these tests several months ago, and was generally satisfied with its accuracy and ease. However, as some other reviewers have pointed out, it does require quite a bit of blood, and unless you bleed freely you'll probably need more than one lancing to get enough. On my test there were three circles, and I was instructed to completely fill each of them with drops of blood. Each circle needed four drops or so to fill it. Fortunately I don't have an aversion to lancing, and as stated, I was satisfied with the test's accuracy and the time it took to get the results. The test has the option to have the results sent to you personally or to a doctor.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real diabetic tool, March 16, 2007
This review is from: Biosafe Diabetes (A1c) Test, Blue (1 test) (Health and Beauty)
The delivery and return report of findings are excellent.

Directions are well written and easy to follow.

Gets the same result as the Hospital lab at about 1/4 of the price.

I use the product quarterly.

The directions and the test worked very well. The accuracy was very good. I had an A1c blood test with my doctor within 3 weeks of the Biosafe test and the results were within .1 of each other. I only had to stick my finger one time, painlessly I might add. So I would highly recommend the test if you are interested.

Days dragged by and I called multiple times as they finally said that the chemical they needed was late in coming. A lab should not be without necessary processing materials; and results should not be delayed. Also, they won't fax or email results, claiming that HIPPA prevents it. But every other lab I deal with, such as Labcorp, will fax results

Update: I notice that Amazon was out of stock of this test for a spell, which should not happen with something essential for many people. It's indicative of the problem I mentioned in my original comment.

If you are diabetic, an A1c test is critical. A regular lab test runs about $100-125. My total cost with shipping was about $25. Got results back in about 2 weeks.

Biosafe does not send test results back. 800# does not work!
I mailed in test strip on 8/19/2008 and have not received results back. Toll free # 888-700-TEST (8378) is dead.
Don't Buy it!

test performed as advertised, but does require several drops of blood, not just a single drop, like a normal blood tester, so be prepared with extra sticking devices.
