Grade 7-12-- "Confusing" best describes this book. It is unclear for whom the book is intended. Although the general vocabulary and tone is for older readers, sentences suitable only for the very young intrude themselves. Despite the title, it is unclear if the aim is to describe the biosphere of earth and the desperate need for preservation and conservation, or the creation of artificial biospheres--and then, on earth or in space, as neither is treated with much depth. Terms are confusing. For instance, the most basic, "biosphere," is described as from under the oceans through the troposphere. Then later it is divided into five parts, all land environments; the glossary gives a third definition. Non sequiturs and oversimplification add to the problem.
