5.0 out of 5 stars Two Versions of Book One Without SPSS, April 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Biostatistics: The Bare Essentials 3/e (with SPSS) (Perfect Paperback)
The book is simple minded and easy to understand without the complicated math. But there are two versions of the book. One comes with a bonus disk with SPSS. The other does not come with any disk at all. So you have to be sure you know what you are getting. Unfortunately I wanted the bonus disk with SPSS but I got the book without it. So I am stuck.

Love this book! I have used this more than any other statistics texts on my shelf! Arrived in excellent condition, in the time frame promised. The disc enclosed cannot be used with a Mac computer, however.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unique book, different take, but not for the novice, December 5, 2011
This review is from: Biostatistics: The Bare Essentials 3/e (with SPSS) (Perfect Paperback)
I teach biostatistics. When I was in graduate school this book was a godsend to me and was THE source I referred to over and over (and still do). Then again, I was a graduate student in Epidemiology. This book is different. It is funny and incredibly irreverent. For some people it might be a good thing, but for others, they may be offended. I think it is a great book, but not always the easiest either for new students of statistics. I think to get the maximum benefit from this book, you should have some statistical background already. Also, I ordered the book with SPSS for my class. This disk has posed a tremendous amount of trouble for my students. Some of them needed patches, others couldn't get it to work. There is almost NO help for this which caused a great deal of frustration for about 3 weeks. I recommend getting the student grad pack separately from SPSS, rather than using this disk with the book.

For those starting out in statistics, I'd recommend Urdin's book "Statistics in Plain English" as this book may overwhelm the novice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy Book, October 3, 2010

This review is from: Biostatistics: The Bare Essentials 3/e (with SPSS) (Perfect Paperback)
It is a good book with not too much mathematics but language is little tough for those who are not native english speakers. Also I could not find video lectures on the CD- Rom. I can only see SPSS sotware.
