5.0 out of 5 stars A Dentist Recommends This Product, August 4, 2005
I am a dentist that recommends Biotene toothpaste to those patients that have sensitive mouths, dry mouths, or get canker sores frequently. The paste is a god-send for these folks!

Biotene toothpaste is biocompatible product that will clean your teeth without irritating your oral mucosa. The product that is in most generic toothpastes, sodium lauryl sulfate, is a form of soap, and can cause canker sores and an irritated mouth in some individuals. BIOTENE DOES NOT HAVE SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE. Instead, it has enzymes that help break down plaque and loosen plaque from the teeth. It will not "foam" like other toothpastes, since it has no sodium lauryl sulfate, but don't let this bother you - it will still clean your teeth gently and with low irritation and low abrasivity.

This is a great product and I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars best ever toothpaste - worth way more than 5 stars, January 3, 2005
After suffering from years of sensitive teeth and frequent gum problems which were all worsened by Sensodyne and other toothpastes for sensitive teeth or problem gums, this wonderful toothpaste and their mouthwash have become an ongoing lifesaver and a joy to use. My teeth and gums do so much better when I use it and it feels so much better than any other toothpaste that every time I've tried switching back to something cheaper, I greatly regretted it.

Even my dental hygienist has noticed a big improvement in the health of my gums and teeth and she always picks up on any adverse signs anywhere. I hope you enjoy and benefit from these wonderful products as much as I have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Helps Prevent Thrush Infections, July 31, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The combination of this toothpaste and mouthwash is the only treatment I have found that seems to prevent thrush infections.

After starting inhaled steroids for asthma 10 years ago, frequent oral thrush (candidas albicans) infections were an ongoing problem. The alcohol-based mouthwashes only made matters worse, and it was a hassle to get prescription nystatin, as it usually required a delayed trip to my doctor. As any sufferer of thrush knows, these infections quickly advance to the point that one can not eat solid food, drink mildly acidic liquids, or even speak coherently.

To stay thrush-free, I floss before bed, brush with Biotene toothpaste 2x a day (making sure to brush the gums, roof of mouth, and tongue), and rinse with Biotene mouthwash to top it off. I can now eat spicy foods again!

4.0 out of 5 stars great for folks with Sjogren's syndrome & others with mouth sensitivity, January 25, 2009
This is noticeably more expensive (and smaller) than your average tube of toothpaste but if you've got Sjogren's syndrom or another condition that causes severe dry mouth, it's well worth it. First, it doesn't burn or sting like other toothpastes; the minty flavor is very mild. Second, it doesn't contain SLS which can be very irritating. Third, it really does help keep your mouth more moist during the day.

At first it can take a little getting used to -- as it doesn't foam up like most toothpastes. It is effective at cleaning, and it's nice to be able to brush my teeth without burning my mouth with the toothpaste.

I start chemotherapy tomorrow to fight an advanced stage of cancer. My dentist told me to use Biotène toothpaste to fight dry mouth which can occur as a side effect of the chemotherapy. I tried this version of Biotène toothpaste--in a gel form with calcium--today and I can see the obvious advantages of using Biotène toothpaste.

Biotène does not "foam" like the typical toothpaste does; but don't let that bother you. The chemicals in this toothpaste are combined in such a way that brushing with this toothpaste REALLY fights plaque, dry mouth, bacteria and more. I am very impressed. They even add a minty taste to it. I have no idea how they figured this one out; but Biotène has to be the result of pure genius.

Use this before any expiration date stamped on the package or the end of the tube of toothpaste; and if you can catch a sale on this stock up! It's expensive next to the other brands of toothpaste but it's worth every penny you pay for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dry mouth patient recommends Biotene toothpaste, March 19, 2007
Biotene toothpaste is a terrific product for those of us who suffer from dry mouth. Dry mouth is a most uncomfortable malady and every little thing that give relief makes a big difference. Think of how your mouth feels when you wake up after breathing through your mouth all night. That's everyday life for many people, such as those who have sjogren's syndrome, lupus, are undergoing chemotherapy, or who take other drying medicines. Biotene is also helpful for people who get canker sores or have a sensitive mouth. When I first bought it, I was skeptical that it would help, and when I tried it, nothing spectacular happened. It doesn't foam, it has very little taste, it doesn't make you salivate. But then I noticed that my mouth was more comfortable and my mouth was moist. My mouth feels calmer and therefore I feel calmer. Biotene is now a part of my daily "toolkit" for oral comfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, January 12, 2009
It worked the first night! I have been suffering from dry mouth and cracked lips for years and have tried many different mouthwashes and cough drops and toothpastes and chapsticks and dentist's ideas. Without anything, I can't even sleep through the night without waking up with very cracked lips and throat and a swollen tongue. Most of the mouthwashes help with the tongue and throat, as does sleeping with a cough drop though this seems potentially dangerous, but no other tooth paste has helped and nothing has helped with my lips before. I can go all day without even thinking about my lips drying out where usually I can't make it more than an hour without having to do something (drink, chapstick...) I recommend this toothpaste to anyone with dry mouth. I have yet to see how it effects my continuous cavities but the dentist is expecting good things.

I have a dry mouth due to medications that I take. I was using Tom's of Maine toothpast for a dry mouth but I decided to try Biotene. I like it so much better! After one use my mouth was moister. I like the taste too. The fact that it doesn't "foam" doesn't bother me. I can still "feel" it on my teeth.

I'm definitely going to try the other Biotene products from this line!

This mint gel flavor is difficult to find in stores, but I prefer the gel over the paste. Great product for dry mouths.
