One of the best horror/comedies to date.,
By Patrick K Maurer (Jessup, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bio Zombie (DVD)
I first saw this movie a year ago at Otakon 2000, an anime convention, and it had me and everyone else in the audience rolling on the floors with laughter. Bio-Zombie is set around two slackers, Crazy Bee and Woody Invincible who work in a cd shop at a local mall. One night the two are running an errand for their boss when they hit a pedestrian, not being too bright they hide the body in the trunk of their car and head back to the shop. Unfortunatly the man doesn't stay dead and soon is spreading his mysterious Zombie infection through the mall. Now Bee and Woody, along with a handfull of survivors are forced to fight their way through the maze-like, zombie infested cooridors to freedom. Combining all the classic elements from cheesy horror flicks and some found exclusivly in video games, Bio-Zombie comes out as a fast paced ride of of gorry thrills, and witty humor. If you're a fan of movies like Army of Darkness than this is a movie that shouldn't be missed especially in subtittles.

This film served as a great reminder of why I love watching movies. It's been a while since I've seen a film that I knew, before it was even over, that I would want to watch it again and again. It follows 2 young shopkeepers in a Hong Kong mall who can't seem to stay out of trouble. When they hit a pedestrian who, unbeknownst to them, is going to turn into a zombie, they hide him in their trunk. Returning to the mall, the zombie escapes and traps many of the shop keepers inside. Pretty soon our heros are leading the escape mission since they have experience killing zombies - from video games of course! This film has stupendous lighting, a great story line, and some of the best written characters I've seen in a long time. You will actually care for them and be in suspense when a zombie pops up hoping noone gets bitten. Some of the camera work is sub-par but there are lots of inventive shots. This zombie film does not have loads of gore like some others, but it does contain huge amounts of intentional comedy that will make you beg for a sequal. The voice acting (for english dubbing) is stupendous I might add. Their dialog flows nicely with the actors expressions and moods, and even seem fitting voices for the actors. This film will be a cherished part of my collection and is a true asset to the comedy-horror genre!

First off let me say that most HK horrors (if you even want to call them that) are not scary, they are for the most part meant to be funny. If you don't understand HK films or culture then this will probably seem very cheesy or stupid. But I can definately say that I loved it. It's just about two average young guys who get into a mess with zombies over the course of one night. They run a bootleg VCD shop in a mall, and gradually all the people left in the mall are turned into zombies one by one. It's just really a great movie because the characters are likeable, the situations are funny, the zombies act funny, and everyone is running around trying to escape for their lives. I actually own the HK DVD by Mei Ah but unfortunately the video quality is not the best so I am going to buy this to see if it's any better. But I notice that the running time on this version is shorter than the original. I'm hoping scenes are not cut? Also there are NO extras on this DVD, while the HK DVD has many extras such as the trailer and even an alternate ending. Either way if you appreciate HK cinema and this type of fun movie it is more than recommended.

What a ride.,

DVD begins.Zombie kills some guy. Then tons of goofy non zombie related stuff happens. You forget you are even watching a zombie movie. It becomes a HK slacker comedy. You kinda get into the characters. Then all hell breaks loose. Suddenly this Abbot and Costello episode is Abbot and Costello meet Zombies, and then people start dying left and right. And this silly movie suddenly gets hardcore and turns into a real zombie movie with really silly looking FX, yet it's too late. Like how Giant Robo started of all innocent and fun and suddenly became hardcore and heartbreaking, the same happens here. Some interesting zombie ideas. Some truly funny moments. And one of the best endings I've ever seen. One of those hidden gems you'll never forget.

I didn't find this movie really scary at all, and i don't believe it is intended to be an extreme horror movie. However I was caught of guard by just how funny it was.The dubbing is hilarious! Crazy Bee and Woody Invincible are awesome main characters! They're such jerks you keep watching to see what stunt they'll pull next.Just look at the way they walk, talk, and dress, its freakin funny.Thats the genuis behind this movie. Not the zombies but the jerks who are put into this situation with zombies and have to fight their way out of a mall! This movie is a must see whether your into zombie flicks or not.

Worth while, almost follows all of Romero's Zombie rules, plenty of gore, but the gore could have been done a lot better. Fortunatly the sillyness of it all totally makes up for it, I actually even think the crappy english voice over adds to the sillyness of it all, check it out!

Bio-Zombie is one of those movies that surprised the pants off of me. I'm a zombie completist so any movie that features the undead I will want to watch, whether the movie has a reputation as being a stinkbomb or not. Well let me tell you Bio-Zombie is one of the most pleasureable experiences I've ever had watching a dead dude film. The two central characters are a couple of young punks who go by the names "Crazy Bee" and "Woody Invincible". The two own a small DVD counter in a shopping mall. While driving a car on an errand for a friend, the guys accidentally hit a man who was standing in the middle of the road. The man survives and while trying to help him up, our two heroes feed him a soft drink that happens to be a biochemical experiment engineered by some Mafioso types. The two guys drive the man back to the mall in an effort to clean him up, but then of course the man soon turns into a zombie. Soon, the contagion spreads and the mall is overrun by hordes of the undead. Anyone sitting down to watch Bio-Zombie should not expect a horror movie. It's a zombie movie but not a horror movie. Huh? Well imagine if Kevin Smith had decided to add packs of zombies into his movie "Mallrats" and that will give you a pretty good idea of the tone of this film. Witty dialogue, vanguard youth, clever pop culture references all of it done Hong-Kong style. Even though more of a comedy than a horror film, this certainly doesn't disappoint in the gore department. Lots of arterial sprayings and gut-munching Romero-style. The fact that there's no zombie action until the midway point did nothing to curb my interest, the first half of the film was very good at providing laughs and setting the tone. Even the two central dweebs, who were extremely annoying at first and who aren't much smarter than a couple of ten watt lightbulbs, really grew on me after a while. Other great characters are "Sushi Boy" who becomes a zombie with feelings and compassion, and "Rolls" one of the cutest girls I've ever seen in an Asian movie. Sure, Bio-Zombie is dumb as all get out but the filmmakers KNOW this. Bottom line is that Bio-Zombie scores humongous points in the fun department and that is why you should watch it.

I bought this movie following the reviews on this page. I love ALL zombie movies. This one is a good time with some blood and gore in it, The flesh falling from the zombies is badly done (think my 4 year old could do better) but the story as a whole is pretty good. Then the part where they get there "BIOs and Weapons" haha thats a trip on its own. $15 is a little high but whatcha gonna do, A must for Zombie move buffs.

lucky me, i got to see this flick in a theater! subtitled, no less! it was a perfect balance of laughs and gross-out gore. but honestly, i think the scariest thing in it was Crazy Bee's hair.

This film was awsome. Everything about it worked out great. All the characters where fleshed out well enough, and there was enough action and plot movement to keep me interested. This is also alot like one of my favorite movies "Return of the Living Dead." While the story is diffrent the pacing is nearly identicle. The movie starts out as a spoof, but as things move along things become more and more serious, and then when characters start dieing, the comedy all but disappears. Very well crafted and thought out. Plus the dubbing is pretty good! All the actors actually try (plus Wendee Lee does the voice of Rolls so I am automatically happy with the dub).
