Bipolar Balancing Act,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bipolar Balancing Act: Journeying through the valleys and peaks of manic-depression (through the eyes of two who have been there) (Paperback)
The bipolar illness is not easily described nor shared with others. Bipolar Balancing Act boldly shares personal experiences and learnings and for this reason should be commended. It also explains one of the most powerful aspects of the illness - the way it affects a person's development, life experience (both in the short and long term) when the illness is acute and when it has been in remission for a long time. The book uses rules frequently, and this is less helpful. Personal rules tend to create a feeling of security, but they simplify the complexities of the illness and are best used for the individual rather than promoted as a solution for all sufferers. What is most lacking in this book is a complete and coherent story to bring the life experiences of Rich and Carol Melcher together, so that the reader can share the journey. The book tries too much to describe the problem rather than share the story. Rich and Carol are brave to have made this contribution - the bipolar condition is always worsened by a lack of people who share understanding of the illness - but hopefully a second book might focus on story rather than remedy.
