Book Description

A little light comedy? Not in this case! BZ Hercules delivers a dark comedy about co-dependent behavior and its far-reaching consequences.
Wallis is beautiful and smart, funny and sexy. Unfortunately, she suffers from bipolar disorder. She has difficulty managing her life, and even more when she feels life's pressures due to her unpredictable illness.
Wallis' daughter Janie is searching for her Prince, the man who is going to make everything right for her and give her the love she doesn't get from her mother.
Bipolar Mama is voiced in parallel narratives, told from the points of view of each woman, spanning 20 years in Wallis' life and a week in Janie's. When their two lives merge at an intersecting point, will their paths converge or diverge? Will Wallis be able to clean up her act in order to ensure that Janie does not make choices she will regret?

5.0 out of 5 stars A light, sexy, fast-paced family drama June 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a light, sexy, fast-paced family drama that never lacks entertainment. One of the interesting things about this story is that the more I read, the better I liked it. The chapters toggle back and forth between the voices of twenty-one-year-old Janie and her mother, Wallis. Wallis and her family suffer from her bi-polar disorder. As a young woman, Wallis is thrown into a marriage of convenience. She retaliates by breaking all the rules in life. Her disturbed behavior is unscrupulous, surprising, and despicable. As Wallis matures and begins to look outward rather than inward, she becomes a lovable and endearing character. Her young adult daughters, Janie and Marcy, describe a family life that revolves around their mother's illness. Meanwhile, their mild-mannered father, Eddie, survives the tumult of Wallis's indiscretions and picks up the pieces her disease leaves behind. We meet Janie as a young woman who lands her first job in a law firm. Janie takes the plunge into unknown territory when she meets someone she thinks is her handsome prince. Events surrounding Janie's new job, her new relationship, and her family lead Wallis, Eddie, Janie, and Marcy to the next step in life.

The characters are fallible, but they introduce their own weaknesses as they progress in a natural way to reach a triumphant end. I was happy to see a surprise appearance by one my favorite characters, Lucy Stone, from "Lucy Stands On Her Principal," and I look forward to following Marcy's adventures in the upcoming sequel, "Natural Papa."

5.0 out of 5 stars Bipolar Excellence! August 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is quite simply a terrific book. I appreciated the use of chapters for each character's viewpoints; the internal insight of overlapping scenes was exactly right. These people felt so real to me, I'm sure I know them. (OK, maybe I know people LIKE them.) Each of them had honest portrayals, warts, good hearts, and orange juice with amaretto and all. Seriously, I read this book in nearly one sitting; who needs sleep? There were fun cameos from the Lucy books as well; you should read them, too. Please don't let the more serious subject of this book put you off: it's uplifting and has a good heart, and a darned fine message of caring and growth without being preachy even once. No one becomes perfect in this story, but they keep on trying.

By the way, if Dolores is looking to adopt anyone else, I'm there.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read! June 30, 2012
By T. Dale
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bi-polar Mama was wonderfully written. It depicts a truthful view of what people with Bi-polar disorder and those who love them endure. Beautifully written to educate yet entertain along the way. Filled with many laughs as well as tears. You see each character grow in their own way. I enjoyed meeting old friends from the "Lucy" series in the book as well. A great read that I would highly recommend and look forward to the sequel Natural Papa. Thanks for another great book, BZ Hercules!
