what a shame,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bird 3 (Audio CD)
I first heard Bird3 during "National Lampoon's Van Wilder", and immediately fell in love with their song "Forgot your name". After painstakingly going through the song credits on the Van Wilder DVD, I was able to find out that the song I had heard was "Forgot your name". I then purchased this CD and boy was I surprised. The melodies and catchiness in each and every song are undeniable. I am also impressed by the variety Bird offers on tracks ranging from the heavy, catchy "Mess" to the slow, album ending "Fighter". The bass on "Take it Easy" is enough to make anyone give praise, while the premise behind "Research Man" is chillingly eerie. Bird even comes off sounding amazingly similar to the Foo Fighters on their low to high ballad "Dry". All in all, this is probably one of the best modern rock CDs I've heard. So where is Bird3 now, you ask? Well I was wondering the same thing, so I looked all over the web to try to find some info on what happened to these guys, and sadly, it seems that they've fizzled due to Immergent Records' inability to give their album appropriate promotion. It's really a shame, since the trio of Bird, Miley, and Coates seemed to have incredible chemistry. Oh well, we'll always have this CD to remember them by.

Bird3 has landed!,

There are not many cd's I can just pop in and let play from start to finish, but this is one I can! I have listened to this album at least thirty times already and I wake up in the middle of the night singing some of the songs. The production is big and friendly with just enough rough edges. Songs like "Forgot Your Name", "Girl Next Door", "Mess" and "Research Man" will light you up! And, "Tongue Tied" will just melt in your mouth. These guys are solid and will have quite a ride.

Why aren't they famous yet?,

I first encountered Bird3 opening for Veruca Salt the summer of 2001. That band had put their faith into Bird and so have I. We fell in love with them all together. This band has successfully combined infectious pop hooks with soul-baring lyrics to create something unique, beautiful, and far from most of the trite pop or rock music you hear on the radio today. You'll find yourself not only humming along, but holding this music close to your heart at your most intimate moments. You will not once regret buying this piece of art.

First Impressions,

When I first heard this cd I dismissed it as mindless pop/rock music. I would have continued to hold this position, but I was eventually forced to listen to this cd with an open mind. I was shocked when I heard the depth of the lyrics and harmony of the songs. Although some songs are laced with an upbeat tone, the cd still holds a somber tone at times. You move from the extremes of "glow" to "Girl Next Door" while still feeling a good connection to the band. This album was everything I thought it wasn't at first, it has depth, creativity, and is a perfect example of a band (not a label) having artistic control

Atlanta Fan,

I traveled from Atlanta to LA and San Francisco to see The Cult, and I was fortunate enough to discover Bird in the process. They opened for The Cult at the Warfield, and I was amazed by their performance. They have a great stage presence, and it is very obvious that they are having fun on stage. Their enthusiasm spills over into the audience, and you can't help but fall in love with their music. I really lucked out when I was able to see them a second time at the House of Blues in Hollywood, where they gave an equally impressive performance. I am now a die hard fan, and I can't wait to see them here in Atlanta. Pending an Atlanta date, I will have to continue to venture out to other parts of the country to keep up with my new favorite band.

The Brightest New Stars in Music,

Bird comes at you with genuine emotion and powerful music that dances in your mind and puts a smile on your face. The lyrics bring insight into the soul of the artist for which the band is named and leave you yearning to learn more. The drummer, Michael Miley, is the most talented I've heard since John Bonham and Keith Moon. These guys will be around for a long time. I can't wait to see them live!!

Absolute Proof that Talent has LITTLE to do with Success.,
By
This review is from: Bird 3 (Audio CD)
It is a cold, hard truth, that success often has little to do with effort or talent (see Jersey Shore, Paris Hilton, K-Fed, Kim Kardashian, etc.). Being well-connected has always been an easier route, and it has still yielded marvelous results. Of course, there are always exceptions but then it depends a lot on the climate that you are in, your audience, are they 'ready' for you, and for what you have to say. If not, then your chances of success drop considerably. It is called "wrong place-wrong time syndrome" and we have all encountered it. When it happens to a rock band, they can literally disappear with only a cd proving they ever existed. Bird 3 is such a band. I have seen rare photos of Bird (the lead guitar player and singer), apparently he liked to wear white wings on his back while he played, and he a little off (clearly). But he was also a virtuoso guitar player. There is a legend that at one show he didn't like how he was playing and went into a 5-minute solo that (apparently) would have rivaled some of Jimi Hendrix' finest live work. I don't know if any of that is true, and I don't really care, it is a nifty legend. What I do know is that this is easily one of the best albums to come out in 2001; a year that saw the rise of the White Stripes, Interpol, Coldplay, to name a few. If you like the Foo Fighters' early sound, this album is indispensable. Every song is outstanding; and yet, sadly, no one knows. There are no websites, no wikis, no blogs. It's almost like they never even existed. But they did, and we have proof, and we are very glad we do.
