I got this to use outside in summer as an end-table on the porch, and inside in winter as a plant stand. As an end-table, it is noisy when setting a glass or plate down on it (sounds kind of like putting the cover back on a kettle grill, since the inside acts as an echo chamber). It's not bad, just took a little adjustment. If you're not setting hard things down on it, this would not be an issue. I like the splotched-paint design, which seems fresher than the traditional Oriental designs. I think the design is more striking from across the room when you can see the whole piece, rather than up-close. Reactions from guests have ranged from gushing "I love it!" to puzzled "What is that?!" It is noticed.
