Book Description

NOTEBird of Prey, along with 6 other stories are included in the horror collection Nightfall. Now available!

Nestled in the warm belly of the abandoned Keisel Steel Works, an ancient creature has begun to stir. A hundred-year cycle is drawing to a rapid close and with it the time when the beast leads her newly hatched young to the feeding grounds.

A handful of the oldest folks in town remember that time well. A time when the sky was clotted with flapping, leathery wings and monsters driven mad by the smell of human blood. They also know of the feeding grounds. They know them as the backyards in which their kids play and the streets of the tiny Alaskan town they call home.

Buck Sanders didn't know any of this the day he arrived at the steel works to pilfer a length of siding for the roof of his crumbling bar. And neither did his friend Tommy Hodgkins. But they are the only ones who can stop a curse that has been playing out for centuries. At stake is more than their lives. At stake is everything.

Bird of Prey is 17,000-words (about 70 pages)

Praise for the works of Griffin Hayes

From the Author

Bird of Prey was a horror novella that I had an absolute blast writing. I didn't want it to end. An old school monster brouhaha where a motley group of men set out to kill a flying monstrosity that's poised to wipe their tiny Alaskan town off the map for good. "We're going to need help. And guns, lots of guns." I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bird of Prey December 26, 2011
By Scooby2
Format:Kindle Edition
I won this from Library Thing. This story will not disappoint if you're looking for a quick horror story about a group of men finding a "bird man" like creature in a small town in Alaska. I thought this story was well written and flowed nicely. I would definitely recommend to others who like horror and the unknown. I am looking to read other stories by Griffin Hayes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Novella January 8, 2012
By LKerf
Format:Kindle Edition
Won this book off Library thing. Very good short story. Author packed a lot of description and action into this. I like how somethings weren't specifically named but hinted at. Would not mind reading more by Griffin Hayes. My eBook copy came with the begining of Malice, another one of his books/stories. The first chapters were great and I am going to have to get the book and finish reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book. December 8, 2011
By Trish E

I won this book on Library Thing and I loved it. It starts out with adventure and horror and just explodes from there. I am going to let my kids read it also. It is not so scary that they won't like it. Thank you so much for letting me read it.

More About the Author

I grew up watching grainy reruns of The Twilight Zone and rereading worn-out copies of Raymond Chandler novels. Eventually, my taste for the unsettling and the inexplicable found an outlet in my short stories; two of which have been published: The Grip with Black Ink Horror and Last Call with Alienskin. I've written a handful of books to date. The latest is a post-apocalyptic series called Primal Shift about a worldwide amnesia that sends humanity back to the dark ages.

I'm always thrilled to hear from readers, so feel free to drop me a line at: griffinhayesbooks[at]gmail[dot]com.
