This finch feeder is much larger than you can imagine from the photo!!
I get 7-9 goldfinch on this feeder at different times through out the day!
It is easy to fill and hang!!
It is the best finch feeder I've ever had!!
The price is RIGHT as well!!

Like everyone else says, this feeder is HUGE - got a big laugh about it at the office when it was delivered and I opened the box. The birds love it, it's really cool to see, like, 16+ finches all over this thing - can hardly wait for spring when the males' bright yellow plumage comes back. No problem with other species trying to horn-in. High quality. Only problem - I'm not sure what's causing this, but there always forms under the feeder a HUGE pile of (presumably uneaten) thistle seed. It's not like the feeder is leaking, but perhaps the holes are too big and extra seeds come out while the finches are feeding. Got to the point where it's killing the grass and then getting scattered by the ground birds. Real mess. Had to put a rubbermaid container under it to catch the seed.

I have had this bird feeder for about a year now and we really like it except that it is a bigger seed waster than our other nijer seed finch feeders. You definately need the Bird Quest large size seed tray to catch all the seed that falls through the holes. The holes on this feeder are round, not oblong like on most finch feeders. It is fun to watch the birds flock to this feeder. They do come to this feeder first, before our other feeders. I wonder if it is because the seed comes out of this one easier.

This feeder is huge so I was skeptical the finchs would like it ,plus it has a spiral perch. But they love it .Construction is great and easy to clean.

This is the best finch feeder I have ever had. I like how easy it is to fill and the birds love it.

This feeder was given to me as a gift after I admired one. The construction is good.I did not have a problem with seed spilling out onto the ground. Unfortunately, the bottom six inches of thistle seed gets damp, and then stays that way. Water is somehow getting into the feeder holes and causing the thistle to become damp, then a smelly and soggy mess. I think a shorter feeder might work better. We live on the coast and may be subject to more wet and windy weather than other reviewers. My goldfinches like the socks much better, and they drain them of seed almost daily.

I have gotten many compliments on this thistle feeder. I did a lot of research on which feeder to buy and I am so glad that I opted on this one. The finches love it and I get many feeding on it at 1 time. Beautiful! I did buy a small tray that screws on to the bottom so that the thistle does not fall to the ground. Overall great feeder!

This is the best bird feeder ever. I love to watch all of the birds gather on it. Sometimes there will be two on each layer. It is so fun to have in the backyard, and so unique!

I bought one of these for my dad for Father's Day 2009. He loved it SO much. I'm buying him another one for Father's Day 2010, because he hinted he wished he had another one! He hasn't complained about any seed falling out. He told me he has had up to 20 finches on this feeder at one time! It is huge, and it is great quality!

This feeder is big, and when it is full it is somewhat heavy. This may cause issues for those trying to hang it from a hook mount. It is fairly straightforward to hang from a tree branch if you've got one handy. There is also a pole mounting hole in the bottom of the feeder which looks like a 3/4 inch hole, but isn't. I have had some difficulty finding appropriately-sized fittings to mount this feeder.

Hanging outside now, it has managed to attract a few house finches. Not a huge number, but a few. And it's only been out for 24 hours.

My black oil sunflower seed feeder gets far more attention from the birds, but I think this has something to do with my neighborhood being full of cardinals and larger birds, and somewhat low on finches. Hopefully more finches (and especially some goldfinches) will find this over time.

Edit: the hole is 5/8 inch (not horribly hard to find), but has a thread width that three separate hardware stores (the orange one, the blue one, and the red one) have been unable to match. I cut the top off a 5/8 inch bolt (with the closest thread size I could find; it goes in most of the way and is secure enough to hold the feeder up--finches don't weigh much) and used some epoxy to fix the other end of the bolt into a 3/4 inch segment of blackpipe, which makes a great post.

I would still recommend hanging this thing from a tree or a very secure hook.
