revisiting Xanadu, May 1, 2007
This review is from: Bird of Red & Gold (Audio CD)
Barry Harris recorded this spectacular solo piano album for Xanadu Records on September 18, 1989 with five original compositions of the twelve tracks. "Nascimento" is a Harris composition which I am assuming is a tribute to Milton Nascimento, kicking the album off brilliantly. "The Bird of Red and Gold" features some more beautiful piano work as well as some nice singing by Barry.
Xanadu Records put out some great albums from some of the most distinguished, talented performers in jazz music, and Barry Harris is certainly among them. Whenever you see old Xanadu Records compact disc reissues grab them up, because they are becoming harder to come by and the old catalogue features some first-rate jazz albums and sessions. Not to be missed this one! A wonderful addition to your own jazz libraries with superior sound, anyone who is a fan of excellent solo jazz piano will surely enjoy this one.
Personnel:
Barry Harris (piano, vocals on "The Bird of Red and Gold")
Producer: Don Schlitten
