5.0 out of 5 stars Our neighbors think we're crazy, but it works!
We have a couple lychee and longan trees in our yard that the blackbirds used to raid like a swarm of locusts. We tried cd's, pie plates, sling shots (never hit any), plastic owl, nothing worked. So this year I went online looking for something cheap that might help. I saw this thing and the reviews were good so I bought one. All it is , is a couple beachballs with eyes...

I've used this product for 4 fig seasons now, and it does work to some extent. I suspend the balloons on strings from bamboo poles so that they dangle just over the trees. Last year, almost as soon as I put them up, a number of crows arrived to squawk at them. The local birds ran the crows off after about half an hour, but the upshot is that these things actually...

All it is , is a couple beachballs with eyes and a place to tie a string to. You get mylar strips in the package also. I took a 16' PVC pipe and put a 90 degree elbow on the end and a 24" piece sticking out and tied the thing to it. Then I took a few large cable ties and attached the pipe to the tree so the thing hangs a little above the tree top. The flimsiness of the PVC gives it a little extra sway. The blackbirds would not even land in the yard for the first week, and after that, the closest they ever got was a couple trees away, where they all just looked at it while complaining loudly. It really did work well on the blackbirds, however apparently bluejays have nads of steel, as they couldn't have cared less if it was there or not. Luckily there aren't that many of them here.

Black birds in Florida are very annoying both by their deposits and sound. Tried numerous ways to keep them away, including plastic owls, streamers, and ultrasonic. Scare Eye balloons were the winner. Birds gone and the neighbors haven't complained yet (which is unusual in Florida). I highly recommend this safe and effective method.

I have been fighting birds attempting to nest in my porch eaves for 4 years. Netting, pie plates, high pressure water blasts...nothing worked. I bought a package of these, put one up and the birds sat in the tree for a couple of hours, then left, and haven't returned!

Looks silly, but effective!

We have a covered rv pad where we keep out trailer year round. It measures 24'x32'. I've had alot of problems with birds ( mostly robins) building nests in the rafters. I have tried bird spikes but the birds find a way to still build a nest and sit on the rafters.

I bought 4 of these ballons and put one in each corner of the rv pad. For the first month no birds landed or tried to build a nest. Last weekend though I found a robins nest built in one of the bird spikes. I removed it and have not had another problem since.

The real test will be next spring when the birds are really active. I will update this feedback then but for now I am fairly happy with this product.

We have a sour cherry tree in our yard. Every June, thousands of bright red cherries ripen and provide us with stock for a year's worth of pie making. Last year, the birds ate the entire crop off the tree before we got a chance to pick them. I was heartbroken! This year, we hung these three balloons in the tree (along with some of the holographic tape), and I am happy to say that I harvested a huge crop of ripe red cherries this year -- birds stayed away.

Last year, almost as soon as I put them up, a number of crows arrived to squawk at them. The local birds ran the crows off after about half an hour, but the upshot is that these things actually attracted some undesirable birds to my fig trees! Anyway, local birds such as mockingbirds and cardinals quickly become accustomed to the balloons and predate my figs, but the balloons do seem to keep out grackles and starlings. I took them down yesterday, and sure enough, now the grackles are brazenly in the trees tearing up the last of the figs. I also use inflatable snakes and Mylar tape in my annual fig defense project, so I'm not sure which element of the project is the most effective, or even if all elements need to be present to be effective.

We have a small horse barn in Rochester, Ma. that has been a habitat for over 30 sparrows, it was getting messy. The day we hung the three Scare Eyes all the sparrows evacuated except for about 6, a significant decrease !! Great and inexpensive way to discourage these pesty birds.

We had a problem with bird's nests in our retractable awning and after placing these 'balloons' near the area, the birds haven't been back.
Highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Drives pesky birds away., July 12, 2011

I live in the woods and for years had had problems with robins repeatedly attacking my windows to drive their rivals (reflections) away. Besides being annoying they make a big mess by leaving little robin bombs on the windows all around my house. I've tried putting up curtains, hanging a big plastic owl and posting pictures of predatory birds with no effect.

I had to experiment with the placement of these but they did drive the robins away and kept them away as long as I rotated the colors (as instructed) every week or so. I found that they work best when hung above, not beside, the problem area. Well worth the money.
