Not for small birds,

This review is from: Bird-X SP-10-NR Bird Spikes Kit (Lawn & Patio)
I was having problems with barn swallows roosting on the brick ledge above our front door. I thought these would keep them off. Instead they just perch themselves on the spikes. My guess it that while it may work well for larger birds like pigeons, it doesn't work so well for smaller birds.

I anticipated the plastic spikes to be a heavier strength. My use is to place on my pontoon boat at the dock where we have a terrible problem with the birds nesting on the railings and canopy in down position.
For the right use (ledges with multiple rows of spikes for a cluster) these spikes appear they would be okay. I returned and ordered the stainless steel spikes. The stainless steel appear to be what I need. The return was very smooth, easily completed.

Worked great for me! They are clear/slighty frosted plastic strips that come with a tube of liquid nails glue, I just glued them to some spots outside where birds where trying to nest but really there is not enough room. Quick and easy. Now no bird nest mess. Not for commercial or large jobs, but solves a problem that I couldn't solve at Lowes or Home Depot.

We actually needed this to keep a cat from jumping on the window sill and waiting for the hummingbirds, so clear plastic was actually better than the stainless steel spikes. I just cut off the extra to get it sized for the window and nailed it in. I advise you use Stainless or Brass hardware to nail, as the galvanized nails I used started to rust. Took five minutes and I was done, and I have a lot left over.

The problem was birds landing on the window sills outside my eleventh floor apartment. The birds no longer visit, thanks to the Bird Spikes. A pack of Bird Spikes contains 10 one-foot sections of spikes, which just happened to be what I needed to cover the total width of the sills outside my livingroom and bedroom. The sections interlock, and were easy to attach to the metal sills with the adhesive included in the package, which worked just fine at temperatures only a little above freezing.

One pigeon tried to land - kerthunk - and bounced away. The pigeons moved to a neighbor's roof and sulked. No more pigeon gifts on the driveway, cars, ledges, windowsills. This product really works. It comes with a giant tube of special glue.

For something so simple, they are definitely effective.
I used them on a metal arbor. I hung two upside-down tomato planters from the arbor and had a bench underneath, but found the birds using the arbor as a toilet - not real healthy for the tomato plants and not a pleasant place to sit and enjoy the garden! I attached the plastic "spikes" to the arbor and no more birds. The glue has held up well - somewhat messy in applying, but not a huge problem. Was able to cut the spikes to fit. Visually, not perfect, but they are a clear/white plastic. Hoping once the vines on the arbor grow more, they will not be as noticable.

Not exactly a bird lover, especially I ain't a lover of flying rats. So they're gone. No tears. Wish them good luck and happy traveling by installing this product.

I don't own the apartment I'm staying in. Most people don't so this is when something like this comes in handy and if the landlord has a problem, they can removed them without a hassle. Its the built-in AC units that allow the birds to make a mess all over my patio balcony.
