Watch the 16 Video Tutorials to get off to a flying start or print out the 120 page User's Manual. Enter a sighting is easy - just point and click. Record up to 35 pages on notes on EACH sighting. Create lists for locations, trips, species and specialized reports for Christmas Bird Counts or ABA reports. Birder's Diary will even graph early and late arrivals! You can select from hundreds of different report and list formats. Birder's Diary even shows you the birds you have NOT seen in a certain state or country!
You can create your own locations like "My Back Yard" and have "nested" locations link to one another. You may want to link your yard to your city and link your city to your county. Add a sighting to your yard and Birder's Diary automatically updates life lists for all locations linked to your yard.
Birder's Diary v2.5 includes a FREE US Mapping CD-ROM that includes every street, secondary road, river and stream in the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska). Zoom in on the US from "Outer Space" to your state, county, city, street. Enter your sightings by marking the exact spot you saw that rare Warbler last spring.
Version 2.5 of Birder's Diary also includes a Conversion Wizard that will convert sightings made in AviSys or BirdBase listing programs and move them into Birder's Diary. That way you do not have to reenter all your sightings and comments. This conversion wizard will also convert "homemade" databases using Access, Dbase, Excell, etc.
Finally, Birder's Diary v2.5 now includes Dr. Charles Sibley's Birds of the World! This is an updated version of his 1990 book by Yale University Press titled Distribution and Taxonomy of Birds of the World. Dr. Sibley has updated the original book twice, so the information in Birder's Diary is much more current than the hardcover version (still being sold for $125). Dr. Sibley includes a paragraph about each species with a description of the species' range and habitat preferences. He also does an excellent job of describing conflicting opinions on the "species" status of certain races. [Birder's Diary is all text -- there are no songs or photos].
Birder's Diary v2.5 integrates with Birds of North America v2.5.
