Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Birds of Avalon is a psych rock band from Raleigh, NC. The are a band's-band, with people like Ted Leo, Kliph Scurlock (Flaming Lips), and Ryan Adams singing their praises in interviews. Their new self-titled record is another analog only outing that builds on the pop aesthetic of ''Bazaar Bazaar'' but blazes new, progressive trails while anticipating the psychedelic experimentation of ''Uncanny Valley.''

Review

''They play to their strengths as an awesome live band, which allows them to tear through shapeshifting rockers like ''Road To Oslo'' and the head-nodding, Eastern melody-influenced ''Pim Pom'' with precision, energy, and narcotic losseness.'' --Alternative Press

''On their third, self-titled CD, it feels as if the album is here to signigy the completion of the group's evolution from throw back rockers to psychedelic explorers, letting the world know that birds of Avalon are finally here, and they're ready to melt your mind.'' --All Music Guide

Most Helpful Customer Reviews

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful By Charlie Quaker on October 5, 2011
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
3rd album from North Carolina band who take indie rock with a melodic pop core and lay it over
some trippy hard rock psychedelic guitar work. It's a succinct, ear-pleasing, gently head-spinning
mix of 60s/70s influenced prog/pop structure and eccentric, acid-tinged instrumental flare-ups.
The place where Hawkwind meets the Beatles in bands like Bevis Frond, The Quarter After,
Green Pajamas, Celebration, The Asteroid No. 4.
