5.0 out of 5 stars Please don't miss the point!!
For over 20 years of producing educational DVD's, I have never felt compelled to write a rebuttal to anyone's review on my products because I have always accepted what people may or may not think about my work but a review by a J.L. Wood has pushed me to do just that. The video is designed for 8 to 14 year old children! Anyone clamoring for a video on "How to bring a...

1.0 out of 5 stars not what I was looking for
I was looking for a dvd that focused on the changes of puberty in greater detail. I thought there would be details about hormones and physical changes with minimal mention of conception and sexual intercourse. I had planned to use this in a school setting but with the cartoon representation of intercourse, I cannot use it. I considered using the dvd up to that point but...

This review is from: The Birds, the Bees and Me: For Boys (DVD)
For over 20 years of producing educational DVD's, I have never felt compelled to write a rebuttal to anyone's review on my products because I have always accepted what people may or may not think about my work but a review by a J.L. Wood has pushed me to do just that. The video is designed for 8 to 14 year old children! Anyone clamoring for a video on "How to bring a woman to orgasm, how to perform oral sex, or masturbation" should look elsewhere. That was NEVER the educational intent of our video. It is designed to relieve parents of the uncomfortable challenges of addressing puberty, sex, and childbirth with their kids. It is presented in a VERY direct and descriptive manner. This video has consistently won awards, had wonderful reviews, and been given high acclaim from organizations such as Parents Choice, Working Mother magazine, Wall Street Journal, and the National Parenting Publication. The careless and irresponsible (with numerous spelling errors) manner in which J.L. Wood described our video leads me to believe that this is most likely a spammer. Thanks and sorry for the rant but this project was very important to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars It was very helpful, December 29, 2007
This review is from: The Birds, the Bees and Me: For Boys (DVD)
I got this tape for my 13 year old son and it was very helpful. It explained everything and open the door for questions to be asked. I think it is a good ice breaker for women who are trying to explain the birds and the bees to a son.

4.0 out of 5 stars very worth the money, January 9, 2010
This review is from: The Birds, the Bees and Me: For Boys (DVD)
This is a great product with quick, concise information for 11-13 yr. olds.
Kids need to know accurate information from their parents,
so it can open the door for questions.
My boys did not want to know too much, just a few facts.
Sometimes with a talk, kids hear blah, blah, blah.
This video is enough information, not too much detail.

This review is from: The Birds, the Bees and Me: For Boys (DVD)
This was a very informative, educational movie. It was age appropriate and allowed my step son to ask questions during and after the movie. I think this is great!! Cute animations as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well done ... but know what you're looking for before purchasing, October 28, 2011

This review is from: The Birds, the Bees and Me: For Boys (DVD)
So I purchased both dvds based on ratings and the fact that this could be a great visual supplement to my impending conversations with my 8 year old boy and my 10 year old girls. I believe the dvds are done really well with appropriate levels of language and visuals. With that said, I was dissappointed because I was looking for something more geared towards puberty with a little of the sex talk mixed in. This was, I would guess, about 80% sex and 20% puberty and, to be honest, it was a pretty short video.

For the girls I would have liked to see more about their period, what happens when they have it, the fact that it comes each month, how to take care of themselves around it, etc. It touches very briefly that a girl will get breasts and she will have a period but I think there is so much more to talk about explaining how their body works.

For boys, I would have liked to see more about their maturing body as well. What can they expect and what happens "in the night" and other things.

I think if you want your child to understand intercourse and how babies are made, this is great but unfortunately I mostly would like a focus on puberty and a maturing body and maybe even sprinkle in some things that may change with peer relationships.

Again, the visuals and verbiage are great. It's a very short video (I do feel like I overpaid) and the most of it is about sex (I guess, hence the name but again, I was expecting a lot more about puberty). As my title says ... just know what you want to talk about before purchasing.

I bought a couple books to talk to my 10 yr old son re: where babies come from. One book tried to script the discussion. I know how to talk to my son. The other book tiptoed around the mechanics of sex. All I wanted was a straightforward treatment of how babies are made and a little about puberty. This video hits the mark. It's simple, honest, and unpretentious.
