5.0 out of 5 stars That's why!
"That's why", is the comment my 9 year old said while viewing this video.
It is a basic introduction to sex education for those children who are
asking where babies come from. In the more delecate parts the video is
annimated. Very age appropriate for young children. I recommend this video
for ages 8 and up.

1.0 out of 5 stars not what I was looking for
I was looking for a dvd that focused on the changes of puberty in greater detail. I thought there would be details about hormones and physical changes with minimal mention of conception and sexual intercourse. I had planned to use this in a school setting but with the cartoon representation of intercourse, I cannot use it. I considered using the dvd up to that point...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction, February 16, 2011

I believe this was a good introduction to sex for my 8 year old daughter. I purchased the boy version for my 10 year old son only to learn that they had covered most everything in school. Wanting to get ahead of the public schools, I immediately bought the girl version. My daughter and I watched together and she was very interested in the content. The animated illustration of intercourse is tastefully done and the narrative is broad enough to allow parents to discuss their views on the appropriate age for sex. Menstruation is not covered in detail as that is not the topic of the video. It is more of a general overview of the physical and emotional components of sex to illicit further discussion.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Now I get it", January 10, 2010
This review is from: The Birds, the Bees and Me: For Girls (DVD)
Kids start getting the basic sex education in 5th grade.
It's really nice to go little by little.
This video explains what sex is with a short animated story.
The information opens the door for questions,
and gives a different way of presenting the facts (video vs.book).
Sometimes, you don't know where to start or what they might know already.
I really liked this video. Very Helpful

4.0 out of 5 stars Good video but know what you want to talk about before purchasing., October 28, 2011

So I purchased both dvds based on ratings and the fact that this could be a great visual supplement to my impending conversations with my 8 year old boy and my 10 year old girls. I believe the dvds are done really well with appropriate levels of language and visuals. With that said, I was dissappointed because I was looking for something more geared towards puberty with a little of the sex talk mixed in. This was, I would guess, about 80% sex and 20% puberty and, to be honest, it was a pretty short video.

For the girls I would have liked to see more about their period, what happens when they have it, the fact that it comes each month, how to take care of themselves around it, etc. It touches very briefly that a girl will get breasts and she will have a period but I think there is so much more to talk about explaining how their body works.

For boys, I would have liked to see more about their maturing body as well. What can they expect and what happens "in the night" and other things.

I think if you want your child to understand intercourse and how babies are made, this is great but unfortunately I mostly would like a focus on puberty and a maturing body and maybe even sprinkle in some things that may change with peer relationships.

Again, the visuals and verbiage are great. It's a very short video (I do feel like I overpaid) and the most of it is about sex (I guess, hence the name but again, I was expecting a lot more about puberty). As my title says ... just know what you want to talk about before purchasing.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for my 11yo girl, September 14, 2011

If you are not a very easy talking person, a dad or mom strugling to talk about sex with your child, this video would help you out. Presented to my 11yo daughter, it just delivered the message and it is what I was looking for.
We watched it as a family, you could hear a fly's heart beat 100ft away, then left for her to review it as she preased and to ask questions if she had any. It is a good start to break the ice.

I had planned to use this in a school setting but with the cartoon representation of intercourse, I cannot use it. I considered using the dvd up to that point but there wasn't enough information about the changes of puberty to warrant the $20 price tag.
