5.0 out of 5 stars I haven't written many reviews but this album is phenomenal, April 6, 2010

This review is from: Birds & Cages (Audio CD)
I purchased this album when Amazon had it on one of their daily specials. I had never heard of them before that time. I previewed the songs and decided that they sounded interesting so I went ahead and purchased the MP3 album. When I listened to the full compilation, I was frankly blown away. The complicated musical arrangements, mesmerizing vocals and thought-provoking lyrics (as well as top rate musicians) were a combination that I have very rarely ever experienced. Honestly, I am not sure why this band is not at the top of the charts and winning Grammys. If your musical taste is geared towards Keane, Coldplay, or even Paramore then you would love this music. Since I purchased this album, I sought out their prior recordings and they are all fantastic. I would have been happy to pay twice the normal price for this because it is really that good. It's hard to select my favorites because each one is terrific but if I had to choose, I would say Puzzles and Pieces, Birds, Cages, and Dance in Perfect time. This is my new favorite band and definitely the best new music I have heard in a very long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Owning the Physical Copy, May 24, 2010

I have all of the other albums by Deas Vail. They are an excellent and innovative band. Their lyrics and sound are so uplifting and inspiring. Having met several of the band members, I can attest to their great personalities even when not performing. I had downloaded the digital version of the album when it was released, but I felt that the music was so good it was worth owning the hard copy. The artwork on the album packaging and booklet are nice and worth the buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not enough stars..., May 14, 2011

This review is from: Birds & Cages (MP3 Download)
I picked this up on a $5 amazon.com download. Its worth 10 times that.

I'm currently listening to "All the Houses Look the Same" by Deas Vail, and its definitely a 5 star album. Given that standard, this is an 8 star album. Every time I listen to "Birds and Cages" (which is a lot) I'm always blown away by the deep meaning of the lyrics combined with top notch music. It seems that every chord progression, each entrance of a new theme, every note has been perfectly placed.

As a previous review stated, if you are Coldplay/Keane fan, you cannot go on living without this album in your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very underrated; deserves mainstream popularity!, March 24, 2011

I discovered this band by their connection to touring with Owl City. However, after listening to several of their songs it became clear that they were a very different artist. The best way I can describe Deas Vail, is that it is the hopefulness of Owl City meets the musically reminiscant taste of Coldplay, and a lot of faith and catchy melodies of their own style, thrown in to make a very magical and thoughtful CD. I hope this band gains the publicity that Owl City has. They have talent that deserves to be recognized.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surreal Beauty, February 23, 2011
This review is from: Birds & Cages (Audio CD)
Imagine a rock band that incorporates strings, bells, aching distortion and a voice as spacy as David Gilmour's guitar playing and you'll have some idea of what to expect from this amazing album by Deas Vail. If only more musicians cared to make music with this much depth. Buy it and lose yourself within it. Then buy All The Houses Look The Same and fall in love all over again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Album!, December 19, 2010

If you are looking for an album that will speak to you and that will take you away from all the crap that is on the radio, then this is the album for you.
When I first listened to this album, I was addicted to it. I couldn't stop listening to the music. It is one of the few albums where I enjoy every single song! Each song has so much deep meaning to it. The instrumentals are fantastic and Wes's voice is so angelic and honest. The lyrics are powerful and you will find yourself inside of them the more you listen.
I recommend everyone buying this! You won't be sorry!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ellouise says "Its great!", February 16, 2010
This review is from: Birds & Cages (Audio CD)
Obviously music tastes are very subjective, but if you have ears then you will like this album. Very creative music and lyrics that will make you happy and get your foot 'a tappin'. Deas Vail is similar to artists like Copeland, Mae, and Lenard Skynnerd, so if you like any of those then you will not be displeased with purchasing this album.

Also, I agree with other reviewers, they are a great show to see in person, very upbeat and lively that you will not soon forget.
