5.0 out of 5 stars Love it
We have this and the Birds of New Jersey book. The pictures are great and the pages are easy to follow. I like the simplicity of being able to find a bird that we just saw outside in this book. My children like to look for the birds they've seen as well. The color-coated sides help them too. Our boys look at the book, ask questions about the birds and don't even...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a Useful Book
I found this book to be very frustrating and not very useful. The birds are arranged by "color" so for instance two of the Colorado hummingbirds are under one color, while the third hummingbird is under another color. All three hummingbirds should be together so you don't have to thumb back and forth when trying to identify the bird in front of you. It was also lacking...

My children like to look for the birds they've seen as well. The color-coated sides help them too. Our boys look at the book, ask questions about the birds and don't even realize they're learning! I never thought I'd be teaching my 4 and 6 year old so much about birds! Don't get me wrong, though. This book is for adults. I have a softcover book and my children would tear the pages out easily just so they could hang them on the wall!

This is an easy-to-read book. We already owned Birds of NJ. We are moving to Colorado, so this was the perfect addition. My son (age 4) also loves this book.

We have really enjoyed putting this bird guide to good use! We like the fact that it is small and compact to carry around with us on hikes or just going for a walk around our neighborhood. We are just beginning to learn about Colorado's bird life so we like that it is organized in to colors making it is easy for us to find the bird we're looking for.

I have other Colorado fauna and flora books by this author and I'm very happy with them. I'm just learning about the natural wonders of my property in Colorado and have so much fun identifying plants, animals and birds using these guides.

Useful for children and adults alike!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use, August 5, 2009

I have two bird guides for Colorado and use them both, since the photos in the individual books can be limiting. This book is easy to use, locating birds by color rather than by another attribute. It's compact and easy to take with you. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars great little book!, April 7, 2007

I bought this because we recently moved to the Rocky Mountains about 50 miles NE of Denver (9000 ft elevation), and there were many different kinds of birds that would visit our feeder. This book really helped me in identifying all the birds I've seen so far, and it also describes what kind of nesting the bird does, migration patterns, interesting facts about the bird, and general overall description. It is also sorted by the color of the bird for fast ID. The photographs are large and clear, and the bird's info is always on the page next to the photo. I am looking forward to purchasing the author's other 2 books on Colorado mammals and plantlife. I would reccomend this book for anyone living in or visiting Colorado, and is interested in birds!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Guide but poor construction, May 13, 2009
This review is from: Birds of Colorado Field Guide (Paperback)
This is the best book out there.....with one warning. The photo paper is such good quality that it can stay bound. We are on book 2 now bc the other one fell apart. Binding sucks.

It was also lacking photos of birds flying, so I never could identify the number of different swallows that I saw. I would skip this book and stick to the National Geographic or Audubon field guides.

The best thing is: it's pocket sized. The bigger question is why should you tote it along? I guess this is a book for leaving by the window overlooking the feeder, if you're a beginning birder.
