Otto Pfister is a well-known wildlife photographer who is also an expert in biodiversity monitoring and conservation. He has conducted numerous research expeditions into Ladakh. He is the co-author of Birds of the Himalayas (1998) and Birds of India (2003). He has published widely in papers, magazines, and journals across the world.
Beautiful book, well edited and written, with robust hardcover and binding.
Maybe it is a bit bulky to carry it when you are trekking in Ladakh's mountains and valleys, but nevertheless, it is a fine book to have at home, to learn in advance of your journey, and to revisit afterwards.
By the way, it is (or was) possible to get it in Leh, at a considerable lower price, providing that some of the amazingly interesting bookshops are still working (I was there five years ago).
Anyway, it is good to have it before you travel there, because when on the trail you will not have much time to read.
