Wow! Mahavishnu's BIRDS OF FIRE is not only a seminal album in rock-jazz fusion, but it ranks right up there with the best of Hendrix, an extraordinary artistic achievement in and of itself. The title cut "Birds of Fire" is truly hair-raising. Normally I listen to a cut I like again and again for hours, but I can only take a few plays at a time of this song -- the violin-electric guitar duel blasts your kundalini energy straight through the top of your head! It's like riding a dragon on acid!
