Birding,
By A Customer
This review is from: Birds of Seattle and Puget Sound (City Bird Guides) (Paperback)
Birds of Seattle and Puget Sound is our most used identification source. We are beginners, and get confused with tomes which identify every bird in North America. This little book brings us the instant joy of identifying our flying guests while they are still at the feeder or bath. We appear to be "experts" to our house guests who marvel at the variety of birds visiting our yard.

This in an excellent book for the birds in this area. My 5 year old can identify all the birds in our backyard and can easily look up the new birds that come around. A must for parents who have children and birdfeeders.

No more sifting through field guides containing hundreds of birds you will never see around here. The authors of this book have limited their scope to the birds of this region. Many helpful illustrations and charts help a beginner with identification. I plan to use this book to assist Boy Scouts with their Bird Studies Merit Badge

The illistrations in this book are large and detailed in color. The book focuses mostly on the most common local birds making them easy to identify. I enjoy this book so much, I keep one copy near my window at home where I have several bird feeders and a second, dog-eared copy in my hiking pack. Kids also enjoy matching the pictures to the real thing at the feeder, making this a fun educational tool. Its small and light enough to take anywhere.

This is an excellent book for the purpose intended, identifying exactly what kind of birds are at my bird feeder. Since the book is limited to what I will likely see in Renton WA. this is much more useful than a big bird book with all North America species listed. Now I know those small brown birds are Chestnut-backed Chickadees, the gray ones are Black-capped Chickadees, etc. I did dock it 1 star for using a brief description and not including a full picture of a Hairy Woodpecker, which is often mistaken for the similar but smaller Downy Woodpecker. Small complaint, as I would have no clue as to what either bird was without this guide. Get this book and you will be a back yard expert in short order.
