About the Author
Audubon Magazine recently hnoored David as one of the 100 people who shaped the environmental movement in this century. A birder as a youth, he carried his enthusiasm and dedication to the environment until his early death in 1988. He may be best known as the founder of The Mono Lake Committee. He was very familar with the birds in this region from teaching many classes and field trips, and conveys that knowledge in his lucid prose.
