4.0 out of 5 stars Perches need to be glued down.
Just put the feeder up, and the finches, cardinals, and tufted titmice are getting interested, BUT The first cardinal flapped and fluttered and finally gave up. I looked closely, and the perches are plastic tubes over the end of a machine screw used to hold the perch assembly. This is fine in itself, but the tube spins on the screw - thus the cardinal acrobatics. He...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good design but poorly made
The product purpose is great, however, it arrived poorly put together. The two separators had curled edges which would cause seed to drop in to the chamber below-defeating the purpose of the feeder. To get everything to work properly, I had to disassemble and put it back together. The reason the perch covers are not glued is if you must remove the bar that makes the...

4.0 out of 5 stars Perches need to be glued down., April 15, 2009

Just put the feeder up, and the finches, cardinals, and tufted titmice are getting interested, BUT The first cardinal flapped and fluttered and finally gave up. I looked closely, and the perches are plastic tubes over the end of a machine screw used to hold the perch assembly. This is fine in itself, but the tube spins on the screw - thus the cardinal acrobatics. He was trying to remain upright. It was quickly remedied with a few drops of superglue on the threads, but this could have been done at the factory, and saved me the time and the really upset bird.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Feeder the Birds Love It, March 26, 2008
This review is from: Birdscapes 111MA Deluxe Grandview Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
This is great bird feeder. The EasyFlow feature lets all 3 chambers empty at thier own rate keeping more feeding stations open then an ordinary feeder where the top feeding stations become unusable as the seeds are consumed. And with the tray on the bottom that catches dropped seed even more birds can feed at one time. The birds love it and so do I.

I appreciated on reviewers comments about needing to glue the plastic covers on the perches. Suggest this should be done at the factory. I was able to do the glueing before I loaded the seed. Since they are loose, birds could not stay on them as originally sent.

Arrives put together and ready for seed. Good quality and attracts a variety of birds. This is the second one I've purchased - so glad you had it available. Thank you. Lorrie

The product purpose is great, however, it arrived poorly put together. The two separators had curled edges which would cause seed to drop in to the chamber below-defeating the purpose of the feeder. To get everything to work properly, I had to disassemble and put it back together. The reason the perch covers are not glued is if you must remove the bar that makes the perch, you will not be able to remove the nut. The quality of this item is extremely poor but with 30 minutes of my time, I corrected the problems and am using it now. Amazon should be ashamed of this company and take a close look at their products. At $39 and free shipping it is very expensive and unless you are willing to make some adjustments yourself-do not purchase it!

This feeder is wonderful. It looks good in the garden and holds enough that it cuts down on my time refilling.

I bought this for my mom for mothers day and she loves it
She had requested this brand of feeder specifically because
she said that every other one she had bought, when the wind
would blow, the seed would go everywhere. This one keeps in
the seed and withstands the weather.

I have had this style of feeder before but it had plastic feeder ports which the squirrels quickly ate through. This one is much nicer with the metal ports. I like the fact that each level fills up so that all ports have seed.

This review is from: Birdscapes 111MA Deluxe Grandview Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
I've been using a couple of these for about four years in Flagstaff, AZ. The primary birds that use it are flocks of Pinyon Jays. These jays are medium sized birds (10 to 11 long with a wingspan of 15 to 18 inches). In our area they travel in flocks of 25 to 50 birds, so the multiple perches of this feeder are a great feature, but the perchs were a little too short for the jays. Also, the feeder's seams started to part due to the weight of the seed and the birds. I re-engineered the feeder by replacing the short perch bolts with threaded rod that went completely through the feeder to help hold it together and left longer perches outside of the feeder. I then used some heat-shrink tube to cover the perches. The jays love it, especially this time of year with snow all over the ground - they often have six or more birds eating at one time and a flock can empty the feeder in two feeding sessions (morning and evening). I'm ordering another one to replace one that got broken (not by a bird) - I use two so I can fill one in the garage and just swap it out with the empty one. For smaller birds, or birds that don't flock like Pinyon Jays, the feeder should be fine as is.
