5.0 out of 5 stars Hummingbird Feeder
I've tried several feeders and prefer this one so much that I bought three! The capacity is good for 3-4 days of fresh food for the hummers, it doesn't leak (!!!), and the clean, classic style looks good. I hesitated to switch out an older feeder that the birds loved, but the birds started using this one right away! They use the perch and just sit for a while. Only the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Attractive - but hard to clean and rusts
For some reason my original review was never posted, but we've owned this for over a year now. It looks nice, definitely much better than all those tacky red ones. The glass container is also nice because it doesn't turn yellow like the plastic, bulb one we had before. And the hummingbirds really seem to like it.

However, the biggest issue are the rust...

Only the underbase is plastic, but it is covered with the copper plate with the feeding flowers and you don't see the plastic. Plus, it is very easy to clean. I highly recommend this feeder.

5.0 out of 5 stars New feeder is great!, May 24, 2009
This review is from: Birdscapes 710 Brushed Metal 12-Ounce Glass Hummingbird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
When I posted this review:
"This feeder is attractive until the metal starts to rust soon after use. Maybe it wouldn't be a problem under a roof or something but in the yard it soon becomes really unsightly."
I didn't realize I'd gotten a defective product but with no prompting from me, the Birdscapes people got in touch and explained that apparently the final step of coating the metal with a clear coat had been omitted. They sent me a replacement one at no cost and the finish is totally different to the touch. It's been up for a while and is holding up great - it's easy to clean and gets a lot of hummer traffic. I'm contemplating getting another one for the other side of the yard - so much more attractive than the red plastic ones.

3.0 out of 5 stars Attractive - but hard to clean and rusts, July 10, 2009

For some reason my original review was never posted, but we've owned this for over a year now. It looks nice, definitely much better than all those tacky red ones. The glass container is also nice because it doesn't turn yellow like the plastic, bulb one we had before. And the hummingbirds really seem to like it.

However, the biggest issue are the rust spots. The top cover and the perch ring rusted in some spots within the first week. I had concerns over longevity because of this, but the top has not gotten worse. The perch ring however has and is very rusty in the center bottom where it attaches to the base. But, you cannot see the rust unless looking at it up close, so it is not an eyesore at all.

Our other complaint is that it is so long and narrow, it is difficult to clean. Most brushes are to big to fit in the opening, or too short to reach all the way to the top.

Still, if I had to but another feeder I'd probably still but this because even with these setbacks it's still better looking than so many others.

Attractive, contemporary looking hummingbird feeder with the most important feature, does not leak! Not even one drop. Good one!

This is a great feeder. It has a great look (better than red plastic) and it's easy to clean. Definitely a step up from the ordinary hummingbird feeder.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rusts, but in a good way., February 5, 2010

Yes, it rusts, but I dig that weathered look, and it actually fits well with our rough-hewn naturalistic garden, The flowers have stayed red, that's all the hummers care about looks-wise. I've seen some fake boutiques filled with new "antiqued" furniture sanded and hammered to look worn, but this is real shabby-chic.

Of the four different hummer feeders I've had it's been the best. It's been easy to clean too, though I sometimes use a bottle brush if there's crud inside.

The steel wire cable did wear through after a couple of years, but probably because had hung it on a thicker cable and it was more friction than expected. It went strand by strand, with plenty of warning so you can wrap a little duct tape on it if need be, but I waited too long and it snapped in a wind storm and the "shatter-proof glass reservoir" broke.

BTW, don't waste your money on fake nectar, it's scam. Just sugar and water, ask Audubon, ABA, Cornell, whoever.

I really like this feeder. The hummers do too. I think it will last a lot longer than the plastic ones, which kept breaking or needing parts replaced. Besides that, it's beautiful. :)

The birds like it. It's easy to clean and fill. And it doesn't get icky like my plastic feeders did.

Though this feeder looks great, the fasteners that attach the "flowers" to hummingbird feeder rust. The hummingbirds drink through the aforementioned fasteners. I do not know if this will discourage hummingbirds in the future, but if I was buying a new feeder, I would not choose this one.
